The Games have been great so far but watching Bush kiss Putin's a** over Georgia was deeply disgusting.

Brazil - N Korea women's soccer. One of the most violent games (and some of the best flops) I have ever seen!
only one comment on the opening ceremonies: we have no idea when our country's athletes will come out in the parade! surely not everyone knows the Chinese alphabet... :ermm:
No they don't, just as everyone does not know the western alphabet. Not sure which feed you are watching Peri but, to my mind, the announcers fell down on the job if they didn't give you some idea of order. (I turned off for most of the parade of nations and tuned back in for the lighting of the torch.)

YAY! You'll have some discussion of The Olympics!! I'm so glad! The summer Olympics rock. I love swimming, diving, martial arts, archery, and gymnastics (very favorite - I used to be a gymnast!!). This will be my first year to have TIVO for The Olympics, so I am recording EVERYTHING. I'll probably discover events I never knew about!

I love the Olympic games. Almost everything is worth watching to me. I watch the gymnastics and curse the judges for their inconsistencies and homerism. I watch the martial arts just to see who can fight the best. I watch the wrestling and root for the USA. I watch all the team sports and yell at the TV. It's all sports and it's all fun to watch.

I hate to even sleep during the games. I sure don't want to go anywhere.

I may or may not watch much of it. I do like soccer, wrestling, boxing, some of the diving events and some of the gymnastics. However, I don't think we should be there.
We rant on and on about being green, and global warming etc. and we go to the one of the most polluted countries on the planet. They have to suspend traffic and industrial production just to try to clear the air for the Olympics.
We rant about human rights and we go to a country that has NO respect for human life on any level. Something is just wrong with this picture.
Do you think Carter was right when the US didn't go to Moscow? I don't. Not that it doesn't happen all the time, but IMHO the Olympics shouldn't be used for countries to make political statements.
Unfortunately, like it or not, the Olympics have ALWAYS been used as a political statement. Hitler used it. Even the Greeks were all about whose soldiers were the best. As much as you would like to keep it separate, it just isn't. I'm done.

Gymnastics - and figure skating for that matter - lost me when it became less about grace & more about tricks. Go back and watch film on Peggy Fleming or Sonja Henning and tell me the stuff they do now is more watchable. The same with gymnastics. I guess that's why I prefer the rhythmic gymnastics - it's done by females that have at least reached puberty and have some style. I watch the teeny-boppers and when they're not twisting or leaping the grace part of it looks very perfunctory. I dunno, but when the best in the world at anything is 15 there's something out of whack.
