Welcome…to So You Think You Can Dance!

Dancer intros open the how as usual and I realize that I really like how they do them this season. Each dancer runs out from side stage to follow the dancer before them. Not a great way to explain it, but it’s the little things, ya know. Cat comes out and apparently, someone made her earrings from old CDs and also gave her the ugliest shoes on earth. Lucky girl!

The jidges are in their places-Nigel, Mary and Adam- and they don’t get to chit-chat because there are 12 dances tonight. Cat does inform us that starting next week, the dancers will be choosing new partners. Wow, have we already reached that point?

Time to dance…

Dancers: Ellenore & Ryan
Dance: Lindy Hop by Carla Heiny to I’ve Got To Be A Rug Cutter by Boilermaker Jazz Band
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) What a fantastic start to the show! Terrific opening! (M) I was clapping, Cat. You bet your bippy, I was! That end was just amazing. You guys both captured the right feel. (N) It was terrific to watch.
Angie’s Thoughts: So cute! I love the choreography. At least one of the lifts was a tad awkward, but I really liked this. They both did a great job! They should both stay!

As we go to commercial, Cat reveals that tonight, we will see the first ever Can-Can on SYTYCD. Oh, my. That should be interesting, right?

Dancers: Kathryn & Legacy
Dance: Jazz by Sonya Tayeh to So Deep by Hot Chip
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) If you keep dancing like this, you’re going all the way! You guys have developed such a beautiful chemistry. Loved it. (M) Man oh man, I tell ya, you are one of the best crab walkers I’ve ever seen! The dancing was really outstanding! Kathryn, you are just a marvel to look at. (N) I think that is one of my favorite routines of the season. Kathryn, you were incredibly sexy. Legacy, you had some incredible musicality. You could both be in the top 10.
Angie’s Thoughts: LOVE this choreography by Sonya! Fabulous! I just love Legacy! They should both stay!

Dancers: Karen & Victor
Dance: Tango by Tony Meredith and Melanie to Montserrat by Orquesta del Plata
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) Victor that was really great for you. Karen, you embraced the stillness. You guys had hot chemistry. (M) Victor, I didn’t think you would be able to pull this off. You had the air down from the second you started. Karen, you looked tremendous out there. Girl, you are still on the train. Victor, you are picking up steam. (N) Your chemistry together and the intensity was beautiful to watch. Wonderful.
Angie’s Thoughts: Oh, that was hot! Wonderful choreography! Victor seemed a little stiff at times, but overall, GREAT!

Dancers: Mollee & Nathan
Dance: Hip Hop by Jamal Sims to Ring A Ling by The Black Eyed Peas
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) By and large, you guys were out there selling it. Nathan, I can tell how much you love doing hip hop. I could see some of the stress on you Mollee. (M) It picked up steam as it went along. Certain things I think could have been hit harder. Great job. (N) I think you are both really good dancers. I am looking forward to you losing each other as partners so you can mature.
Angie’s Thoughts: I really liked the choreography, but they were off quite a bit. It looked pretty sloppy at times. Still, it was fun to watch.

Dancers: Noelle & Russell
Dance: Samba by Tony and Melanie to Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) It was a little too nice. I love you both, but you needed to get a little more ‘oogey.’ (M) There was just not enough compression. It ended up feeling a little shallow. The performance level was phenomenal. (N) I needed more sensuality from you, Noelle. Russell, I still don’t believe you haven’t had any other lessons!
Angie’s Thoughts: I just love Russell! This was so fun! Probably not technically perfect, but I loved it! Maybe not as ’sexy’ as it should have been, but I enjoyed it all!

GLEE! Tomorrow!

Dancers:Ashleigh & Jakob
Dance: Lyrical Jazz by Sonya to Time Flies by Lykke Li
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) That was so beautiful, I don’t know what to say right now. Ashleigh, you are a different girl than you were in Vegas. Jakob, you’re surreal. (M) Time flies when you’re having fun. You cannot fake the type of chemistry the two of you possess. Ashleigh, you have grown so much. (N) I can always compliment you, Jakob. You have given each other something special.
Angie’s Thoughts: Those leaps! Jakob is amazing! Wow! The lifts! Beautiful! (I need more exclamation marks!!!!)

Dancers: Ellenore & Ryan
Dance: Broadway by Spencer Liff to Razzle Dazzle from Chicago
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) You guys NAILED it! Beautifully done. Full of character and flavor. Ellenore, you were a ROCK star out there! Fantastic! (M) HOLY SMOKES! Ryan you really dug in and got that character. You are a true professional dancer up there! Ellenore, you are unique. You’re the IT girl! (N) I loved you two. You added yourselves on top of the choreography.
Angie’s Thoughts: What is up with all the fabulous choreography, tonight?? It’s unusual for me to like ALL of the routines! This was different and fun and Ellenore and Ryan really played the characters well. LOVE!

Dancers: Kathryn & Legacy
Dance: Viennese Waltz by Jean-Marc Genereaux to Your Guardian Angel by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) That was an extraordinary attempt. You have to work on your feet, Legacy. Kathryn, this is a great night for you! Congratulations. (M) It wasn’t the best. The feet were smacking around the stage. Kathryn, we don’t catch you in a bad moment. (N) It’s impossible to be mean. Kathryn, you were gorgeous.
Angie’s Thoughts: Oh, it was beautiful and awkward at the same time. Legacy cried at the end. I love him! I loved that choreography.I think Legacy struggled some because he’s a tad short and it was hard for him to get his arms over Kathryn’s head. Yes, I know his feet were sloppy, but I love this couple so much! Kathryn’s dancing was just beautiful. I HOPE they are both safe!!

Dancers: Karen & Victor
Dance:Hip Hop by Laurieanne Gibson to Moving Mountains by Usher
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) A lot of intensity. You both danced it great. (HUH?) I thought you danced that great. I really did. (M) It was ok, you guys. There wasn’t anything there that was memorable. I don’t feel really good about it. (N) I didn’t feel the chemistry. You weren’t together.
Angie’s Thoughts: Rough. REALLY rough. Very bad. Also, the first bad choreo of the night. The entire thing was just a mess.

Dancers: Mollee & Nathan
Dance: Can-Can by Tyce Diorio to Cancan Suite
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) It was a little better showing for Nathan. (M) Totally energy the whole time. It was so enjoyable. (N) I thought you did it with all the energy and enthusiasm that that routine demanded.
Angie’s Thoughts: Didn’t love it or hate it. Parts of it was really fun. Some of it was disjointed. Mollee’s kicks were not great.

Dancers: Noelle & Russell
Dance:Contemporary by Tyce to A Case Of You by Diana Krall
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) You guys were just gorgeous! I think you guys aren’t going anywhere. (M) It was very special for me, too. Then entrance was so beautiful. It just never stopped. (N) You needed to leave us something to remember you by and that’s what you did. Russell, your technique gets better ever single week.
Angie’s Thoughts: Gorgeous!! LOVE!!

Dancers:Ashleigh & Jakob
Dance: Cha-cha by Jean-Marc and France to Cha Cha Heels
Judges’ Thoughts: (A) You made yourself seem like you were a ballroom dancer, Jakob. You guys killed it! The couple of the night for me. (M) You guys have blown it out of the ball park tonight. (N) Jakob, your foot action was good. You were the fish out of water but you certainly didn’t look it. That may have been a cha cha but you are waltzing through to the top 10.
Angie’s Thoughts:Chemistry times a million! Fantastic!! Wow!

What a great show! I think I would be OK with any of these people going home tomorrow night–Mollee, Karen and Victor. I like everyone else too much!! Tomorrow will be hard!
