All About The Cheese

Published on May 21, 2008 by in Season 7

I am on the fence on whether I liked the way Idol opened the show last night with the whole boxing thing or not. It was different but was it just a tad cheesy. I have included it in the post for those that missed it or want to see it again. Leave your thoughts in a comment and lets discuss.

The opening was alright. I don’t mind it. The group #’s are FAR MORE cheesy! But how they completely blindsided DC and threw him under the bus is the real upsetting thing from last night. Hopefully we’ll see that america is smarter and could see the setup.

    Needless crap.

I thought it was more than annoying – and it took up 15 minutes of a 60 minute show, once again rushing the songs, though they keep acting like we’re there for the singing. Of course, turns out it didn’t matter – didn’t matter what DC sung that is, as he was scripted to be sandbagged anyhoo…

    Cheesy is an understatement

I think it was cute…im a big boxing and wrestling fan so to see it broadcasted (well kinda) really makes me smile because they are trying to get rid of them

  6. Cheeseburgers without the buns and meat. Gorgonzola mountain. Buried alive in cheddar.

    Need I say more?

However – DC’s hair looked cool – that’s how I want mine. Should I have any hair left by the time it grows out.
nooooo…Billy! Not rooster/parrot head!

Of course YOU would look FAB in any hairstyle. Sexy beast!
Yeah it was totally cheesy, but I liked it. And I just watched it again and it really had me laughing!
    A few comments, though:
    1. I don’t think DC weighs 180 pounds. He doesn’t look like it, at least. He’s not super tall and he doesn’t look that big!
    2. I don’t think DA weighs only 100 pounds. I mean, seriously…yeah he’s really short and not at all big or anything approaching even semi-muscular, but he’s still a 17 year old male, for crying out loud. Is that even possible?!?!
    3. I was kind of surprised that Ryan let someone else do his signature ‘This is American Idol’ bit! He couldn’t have done it in the context, but still – I was surprised!
All in all, I found it funny – and cheesy or not, I liked it. At least it wasn’t as cheesy as the group performances on a Wednesday night always are!
David Archuleta is 5 ft. 6 1/2 inches tall. So I guess everyone that height is considered “short”. Ryan seacrest is 5’8″. And of course David A. doesn’t weigh 100 pounds !

It was pretty cheesy. It kind of reminded me of Iron Chef!

  10. I’ve been calling it a David vs. David showdown and personally being a boxing fan I thought the whole intro and show theme was well suited for the night. They got boxing’s greatest announcer Michel Buffer and respected commentator and analist Jim Lampley doing bit throughout the show. How awesome was that? I’m still hoping David C. wins based on the whole season and not just last night.

Loved it, a little excessive….ya. Would have preferred a little less drama and some humor in there. But once you start with such a grand theme where else can you go? To drop it or change it to me would have been a bigger let down.

Just don’t comb it when you get up in the morning… :w00t:

    Jim Lampley! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Andrew LLoyd and Clive (as Burgess meridith)eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

I thought it was okay. But it didn’t come anywhere near the Bullfighter’s night !!!!! :w00t:

  17. Definitely cheesy, but it kinda fit in a weird sort of way. After about the 3rd boxing reference though, I was tired of it. I didn’t really mind the opening bit, but let’s not beat it into the ground.

  18. Exactly Angie, it was a fun start, the announcements and costumes. But the drawing out of it all was too much.
I thought it was PERFECTLY cheesy for this show. At least they don’t take themselves TOO seriously and that is why I thought it was ok. I didn’t necessarily LIKE it, but at the beginning it was funny. That they dragged it out for the entire show was a bit much, though.
i totally agree.

  20.
Just because it was awesomely cheesy didn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I thought DC played it up with the whole jumping & punching at air. DA could have used a lil’ coaching on how to ham it up.

I think they both should have sucker-punched Ryan – now THAT would have been funny.
So funny, I’m with you on that!

  22. Personally I didn’t like it very much. The “professionals” who were sort of narrating bits and pieces of it (like ALW and that other guy, sorta decent looking sports announcer type), what was that all about? I didn’t know who the one guy was, and maybe that’s because I’m not a boxing fan, or maybe it was someone everyone else “knows,” but it was a lot of just filler to me.
    Yeah, I know I’m a big downer.
Cheesy, absolutely. Although I thought the weight announcements were pretty funny. And the guys looked good.
    Camembert, anyone?
