It seems now that Archie’s Stage Dad from Hell has been banned from being backstage since he has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production even changing the lyrics to David’s songs.
During “Stand By Me” performed by David last Tuesday a verse was added by Jeff (David’s Dad) that included lyrics from the Sean Kingston version which American Idol didn’t receive the rights for and it ended up costing Idol a ton of money.
In a meeting with the Idol lawyers on Wednesday Jeff was told he was “banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs.” He will however be allowed to sit in the audience during the show.

I’m surprised he didn’t try to make David insert some of America the Beautiful into teh Anthem the other day.
jeff is a good dad, tmz story is false
tmz tries to prove their story with two videos, both jason and simon say jeff is great and they never had any problems with them
and I know for fact it was cleard to have “all the beautiful girls” added to the song as it this was discussed Before Tuesday even came around

Doc, do you suppose that was maybe more a sign of the times than anything else? I’d think only a rare few parents back then wanted their kids to listen to or play rock music….it was anti-everything they stood for. We grew up with it, but our parents probably took it as a sign that the next generation was going to hell in a handbasket. And what a long strange trip it’s been!
My mom and dad loved rock music and country equally. They liked my music just fine but wouldn’t have admitted it to me upon pain of death.
It didn’t matter what I did, they never had a positive word to say to me about it. I just chalked it up to middle kid syndrome and went about doing my own thing. My older brother got the world handed to him on a silver platter and if he farted at the dinner table they both praised him for the quality and volume level of it. My sister dies at the age of 18 months but I’ll bet she would have been spoiled to rottenness and more had she lived.
As it was, my mother bore a grudge against me because I lived and my sister died. She carried that grudge to her grave and always delighted in telling me gleefully that I was going to hell because of it. I never listened anyway so most of the time it just washed over me like a Summer breeze.
After my band was killed by the draft, my dad finally told me it was a shame because I was a talented musician. I nearly fainted on the spot. Then I went to Viet Nam.

categorically false
Translation, every word of it is true.
I read this over on the American Idol website. Not sure what’s true and what’s not.
“LOS ANGELES According to American Idol spokesperson Andrea Jamison, the rumor about Jeff Archuleta, Idol contestant David Archuleta’s father, being banned from backstage and rehearsals is false.
“The rumor that surfaced yesterday on an entertainment Web site about Mr. Archuleta are categorically false,” said Ms. Jamison. “As part of normal procedures at American Idol, all family members of contestants and personal coaches are prohibited from participating in rehearsals during the final two weeks of the competition and the finale.”
According to online Web site TMZ, Jeff Archuleta was told this week by producers that he can no longer join his 17-year-old son David as he prepares for the show. The person was allegedly not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
However, Ms. Jamison stated that this was mischaracterized. “The ‘ban’, if you will, applies to all family members and others not directly affiliated with the show and 19 Entertainment. This did not single out Mr. Archuleta nor do producers have any problems with his conduct whatsoever.”
and if they give their sourcs name I am sure he or she would be removed from the studio and we wouldn’t get any of the information they provide, like song spoilers etc. The source is called a mole for a reason. American Idol doesn’t know who it is
Thanks for the info, Slim. Makes sense.

By the time I turned 17, I was already a seasoned veteran performer, at least in my own mind. People liked our act. I was told many times that I was a good singer. Who knows? If not for the draft and Viet Nam, you might by buying my 40-year-old hits today.
While it is nice that David Archuleta’s dad supports him, he comes across as too controlling in my opinion. I had a good laugh over his being banned from the studio and back stage at AI but I think I would have given my left arm for any hint of support from my parents.

“This is crazy,” said one AT&T spokesperson at the event. AT&T Utah director of sales Marty Clark said the company held similar appearances in Missouri and Florida for Cook and Mercado and said those events “didn’t come close” to the number of people who showed up for David.

Go Archie!
Journalists don’t have to name sources because sometimes there is a lot at stake for them. Remember, one of the main scoops in History was Watergate. The source was only known as “Deep Throat”.
I understand TMZ is not very reliable but Associated Press has higher standards. AP’s story is signed by a reporter and she says the person who works with American Idol spoke directly to her, but wasn’t authorized to comment the matter publicly so he/she spoke on the condition of anonymity.
and if they give their sourcs name I am sure he or she would be removed from the studio and we wouldn’t get any of the information they provide, like song spoilers etc. The source is called a mole for a reason. American Idol doesn’t know who it is

Okay, there’s one thing I don’t understand. If he rehearsed the song that way, other people in the Idol machine must have witnessed it. Why is ArchuDad the only one to blame? In any case, I totally believe he’s been way too intrusive. Just read the Entertainment Weekly story from next week, about the Top 5 rehearsals. The reporter saw Jeff interfere heavily, telling the band how to make the arrangement and everything. David told the reporter that his Dad was his “translator” because he couldn’t articulate what he would really like to do on his songs. Sounds more like Archuleta grew up on the stage under Dad’s control and didn’t learn how to live independently. No wonder he’s so timid, insecure. Let go, Jeff, let go. Maybe if you give David some room to grow, we can see more of his own soul in his performances.

OK. Now can we stop hearing that Momma Judd was lying (even though she had no reason to.) For those who say that he couldn’t have changed the lyrics up with no one knowing, have you ever performed? Once you are on stage no one can stop whatever you have planned. If you don’t mess w/the band, you can sing anything
Once you are on stage you can do whatever you want. It is a live show.
I’m not sure about adding lyrics from another song is ok or not, but David C. changes the original songs all the time. And Syesha changed the lyrics from “Me and Mrs. Jones” to “Me and Mr. Jones”
David Cook changes the arrangement, not the lyrics. Also, those who do change lyrics AI has to have the rights to the song. Archie’s song change was done without the rights.
And I also read that AI approved the change.
So who knows. I wish TMZ would quote their source instead of saying it came from their “insiders”.

Rachel, I heard that one of the Idol spokespersons went to the AP under the condition of anonymity, so it was actually from another source other than TMZ. They confirmed it well after the fact (and I think TMZ pulled the story afterwards, I haven’t been able to find it).
Poor Archie. I heard he actually had a great homecoming the other day, so it must feel like a big surge of ups and downs for him. Here’s wishing him the best through it all.
I can’t judge his dad among all the rumors, to be honest. I’ve heard all sorts of things, but I thought it was mainly on the part of media press exaggerating the claims. Yet, as I started hearing more about it, I did feel concerned that the rumors might have been true, and this part of it, though reported weeks back, turned out to be true. I think I heard once that his dad was banned from Star Search back when Archie competed.
I agree with starshine on a lot of points: especially that if his father gave him more room, we could perhaps see a lot more from him.
We’ll see, I just wish him the best with everything to come and hope it doesn’t hit him too hard.
Hopefully, David will be fine. I hope he can rise above his Dad not being around, but now is the time for him to become himself. I know he is only 17, but it is HIS talent, not his father’s that is getting him through this. Maybe it will take some of the pressure off him to be on his on and let his true talent shine through. The Billy Joel song can be awesome for him, and I hope he takes full advantage of it. David has an incredible voice and I hope he will be managed correctly in the future, and also hope that he has the right kind of voice training so he doesn’t blow his vocal cords like Jordin Sparks. I love listening to him sing. He is a sweet, humble, talented young man and I hope he makes it all the way. He can do it!
My support is behing him and I will definitely follow his career wherever it takes him.

If David’s dad is such a good dad then he needs to let his little bird fly without interferring. Parents undoubtedly need to be supportive but not be in his face for every little movement or word. He needs to back off and let the boy grow, sing, and make his own way. It’s gotta be hard to perform under a big thumb. No wonder the kid always looks uptight.

very good point!! they have rehearsals and dozens of people watching, even the judges (as per Paula’s error). Why were not the song lyrics noticed before the show. Unless he added them only at the actual performance, that is unlikely..and that would be David’s error also. I can’t imagine that the cast doesn’t know the rules… It is time he started being accountable for himself. I think his father has been his spokes person since he was a young boy, just as a father should be..and it is hard to let David go on his own at this point, because he has been there for him from the beginning…he must love him a lot, and wants to protect him. How can you say “no” to a parent that has such a hold.. And I know from experience, producers, directors and crew can be ruthless. If they think someone is trying to invade their area, they feel threatened and the fur is going to fly!! Sometimes in a vindictive and evil way…I just think there are two sides, but the people in charge have the last say…no, the only say! This could cause David’s demise.

If it hits Idol in the wallet, they should be taking action. I do feel sorry for David for having an overbearing parent like that. Could this be the first stage-parent from hell for AI?
If this is all true, I feel so sorry for Archie. Bless his little heart.
David must be so embarrased. :dizzy:
Poor Archie.
