In an interview with OK Magazine, Idol castoff Jason Castro was asked about his use of drugs and alcohol. His response, “When I was younger I was real hyper and they’d think I was always drunk and I had never had a drink of alcohol until, like, last year. But the fact is I’ve never been high in my life.”
Ok so Jason has never been high, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t smoke pot. Remember Bill Clinton, he didn’t inhale.

Even with the new scoring system, most people refer to their scores without including the writing section. So the 1340 would be the Math and CR sections and would be out of a total score of 1600. Most colleges still don’t “count” the writing section yet – they use it as a guide to placement in Freshman English classes.
1340/2400 isn’t a very good score.
Unless you are high or something. Then you rock.

Call me a party pooper, but I thought Jason was a Construction Science major at A & M, not a Petroleum Engineering Major. That would put him in the school of ARCHITECTURE.
Also, 2400 has been the top score on the SAT since 2005. If he is 20 now, that score would have been in effect since he was 17.
I think Jason’s telling the truth… I mean basing from how he is during the competition, he is just really a laid-back kind of person… I’m not sure though if his care-free attitude will work to his advantage or disadvantage in the long run… but hey i like the kind of music he makes =D i’m a fan =D

I was convinced Jason was a stoner but after seeing him interviewed a few times I’m actually starting to think this is just the way he is naturally. He’s laid back, shy and a little goofy and it comes across as being stoned when he’s not.
Whatever it is, it seems like he’s a very sweet person and that’s the most important thing. What he does or doesn’t do in his private life is his own business.
Oh yeah, did I mention he’s gorgeous? He is.

I don’t care what Jason does as long as he stays true to himself and continues to make the beautiful music that I’ve come to love.
That beautiful music has been playing on my iPod this week at Myrtle Beach. Fellow Castronauts, if you’re planning to head to the beach this summer, don’t forget Jason. To me, there’s nothing more relaxing than digging your toes in the sand while listening to “Daydream”, “Travelin’ Thru”, “Over the Rainbow”, “Forever in Blue Jeans” or any of Jason’s other recordings.
Last night’s show was a bit of a letdown for me after spending the afternoon with Jason….

It’s true, it just doesn’t matter.
However, Jason and Jason supporters should understand that no matter how smart you are, if you present yourself in a certain way, you take the risk of having people believe in the image you project. For example, a very smart girl wearing something revealing can get a reputation for doing absolutely nothing. So Jason, looking like a Rasta and singing Marley and sounding oh so much like Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High–well, you have to be pretty naive if you think people are going to say, “oh look, there’s Jason Castro, the class valedictorian. He’s a shoo-in for MIT!”
By the way, I love Jason. Just stating an opinion. No judgments from me. But I have done my share, enough to recognize it when I see it. So with that being said, Jason has a career ahead of him as an actor if the singing thing doesn’t pan out!

I was going to do a take on BeBe but couldn’t summon enough energy. As a major Jason swooner, I could care less what anybody says about him. I’m pretty easily offended, but I have never had a problem with anything you’ve posted, Slim.

I don’t find Jason’s answer unfathomable. I am close to twice his age and have never touched the stuff. In my high school days there were plenty of people who thought I was a stoner but I wasn’t. In fact, I never even touched alcohol until I was of legal age. I know there are many who can’t believe that there are people like us in the world, but we’re here.
I also don’t think this is such a big deal. I know it’s getting pub because he’s an AI contestant but for the most part it’s a non story (like most celeb stories are).
I will say one thing though. It was nice to see him give an honest, straightforward answer. He could have been evasive and gotten all indignant about being asked such a question. He seems to be a pretty down to earth guy.

Slim, I appreciate what you post on this blog because I don’t scan the Internet looking for ‘gossip’ but I do like to know what’s being said out there. Personally, I don’t give a hoot if he smoked pot, I know many many people in many walks of life who have. I’ve had a few tokes myself in my life and I’m a grandmother of 5. Though Jason wasn’t my choice to win, I give him tons of credit. He is talented, adorable and his sweet personality is part of that adorable-ness.
Too bad bebe has such anger issues. Maybe she should take a hit once in awhile and lighten up.

He was the only true amateur on American Idol this season, he achieved stunning success among a group of vastly more experienced competitors, and he did it with grace, charm, humility and dignity. What is so threatening about Jason Castro that he is continually made fun of in this forum?
Hmm…this is interesting. Most college-aged guys of my acquaintance have tried marijuana at some stage, even if they don’t actually use it regularly. And poor JC definitely fits the bill – 21 year old college student, with dreadlocks, who likes Bob Marley and is perpetually…oh, let’s say…”laid back”. But judging by appearances alone doesn’t help determine a pot user – some of the nicest, most clean-cut, straight A getting guys I know have been serious users.
Putting all that aside for a second, though – do you think he (umm..or ANYone in his position, what with AI and a career only now starting) would really own to it? I wouldn’t.
His goofy personality seems genuine, and he doesn’t appear to always be the sharpest tool in the shed (not like it matters when he’s the hottest! :biggrin: ), so…maybe he really is just “naturally high” like Carly said! All I know is is that I don’t care! I miss Swoon Boy!
