X Factor Fires Paula Abdul

Published on Jan 31, 2012 by in Paula Abdul, X Factor

X Factor brass last night fired host Steve Jones, judge Nicole Scherzinger and now judge Paula Abdul as Simon Cowell says the show needs bigger stars.

BREAKING… EXCLUSIVE: Today at The X Factor was a bloodbath which just claimed its biggest name. Not only was host Steve Jones let go and judge Nicole Scherzinger exited from the Fox show today, but now a Simon Cowell insider just told me that his longtime friend and American Idol colleague Paula Abdul won’t be returning as an X Factor judge next season. I understand from sources that none of the three left on their own accord and that it was cleaning house day at the so-so rated show.

Paula has confirmed she is no longer a part of X Factor

“Yes, it’s true; I won’t be returning to The X Factor next season. I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations. Simon and I, along with Fox and Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, and I have absolute understanding of the situation. Simon is, and will remain a dear friend of mine and I’ve treasured my experience working this past season with my extended family at Fox and Fremantle. I want nothing more than for The X Factor to exceed ALL of their wildest dreams. This truly has been a blessing and I am most grateful.”

Paula Abdul Joining X Factor

Published on May 7, 2011 by in Paula Abdul, X Factor

Paula Abdul is the 4th and final judge for the upcoming X Factor season that will start in September

America’s sweetheart, world-renowned choreographer and pop icon Paula Abdul will join Cheryl Cole, Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Simon Cowell as a judge on THE X FACTOR, the highly anticipated singing competition series debuting this fall on FOX. Abdul, who sat alongside Cowell for eight seasons as a judge on AMERICAN IDOL, has worldwide album sales exceeding 50 million records, two No. 1 albums, six No. 1 singles, a Grammy Award, seven MTV Awards, two Emmy Awards, two People’s Choice Awards and two Kids’ Choice Awards. Abdul will join Cole, Cowell, and Reid as they travel to THE X FACTOR audition cities searching for the next global superstar or breakout music group.

“This show would never have been the same without Paula and I can’t believe I am saying this – I have missed her a lot, and I am thrilled she’s on the show,” said Simon Cowell.

“I am excited beyond words to be a part of THE X FACTOR. I couldn’t be happier to bring my love for cultivating talent and performance to such a wildly anticipated show,” said Paula Abdul. “I’m looking forward to being back with the FOX/FremantleMedia family and know that it will be an extraordinary journey — we’re going to have a blast. I’m also delighted and grateful to be sitting next to Simon again…but you might want to check back with me in a week or two!”

“Paula is not only the lovely, nurturing person that America fell in love with, but she’s also one of the fiercest competitors I’ve ever seen — which makes her a perfect fit to judge THE X FACTOR,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Paula and Simon have undeniable chemistry, and together with L.A. Reid and Cheryl Cole, I think we’ve put together an incredibly entertaining judges’ panel.”

Simon Names The X Factor Judges

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Simon Cowell has named the judges that will make up the X Factor panel. Not sure how the latest names will pan out for the show but I am glad to see Paula returning again. I just hope they check her soda cup before the show each night.

Cowell tells me that in addition to himself and Antonio “L.A.” Reid, the chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group who resigned to join The X Factor panel on Fox (and about whom Simon said “was my No. 1 choice to sit alongside me on the show”), he has made up his mind to bring back Paula Abdul beside him and to add a heavily tattooed Brit singer convicted of assault and who’s virtually unknown to American audiences, Cheryl Cole.

Jill & Jacob (Live To Dance)

My favorite performance on the absolutely awful new Paula Abdul show “Live To Dance” last night was Jill and Jacob. Ok not so much Jacob but Jill is mighty fine. To bad they dance contemporary. Ditch it and move to Hip-Hop.

Live To Dance Premiere

Live To Dance with Paula Abdul will premiere tonight at 8PM on CBS. Anyone plan on watching? I will and will be live blogging the show.

In one of the most inclusive talent searches on television, dancers with raw ability, in any age group from across the nation (either performing solo or in a group) can audition in any form of dancing – ballet to break dance, tap to tango, or show us something we’ve never seen before with your own unique fusion of styles – rock ballet, hip-hop clogging or contemporary mixed with capoeira. The most talented dancers who make it through the callback process will have the chance to perform live on CBS in the semi-finals and finals, where they will battle for the right to be crowned LIVE TO DANCE champion and be awarded a $500,000 prize.

Paula Abdul’s dance show taking on ‘American Idol’ night in January

Those clever schedulers at CBS have decided to air Paula Abdul’s new dance competition series on the same night as “American Idol.”

“Live to Dance” will premiere with a two-hour episode on Tuesday, Jan. 4 and then move to its regular time period on Wednesday, Jan 5, airing from 8-9 p.m. Those initial broadcasts are all about the auditions, and the show goes goes live the following week – just like “Idol.”

Abdul, who famously walked from “Idol” during contract talks after failing to secure the kind of stupid money Fox and that show’s producers were willing to dole out to host Ryan Seacrest and judge Simon Cowell, is billed as an executive producer on the show – one of six – as well as “mentor” and “lead expert.”

CBS now airs “Survivor” on Wednesdays at 8 and the slotting of “Live to Dance” coincides with the six-week hiatus between “Survivor’s” fall and spring editions. Abdul’s show is also moving into Wednesday night a week sooner than Fox, lately, has launched its Wednesday “Idol” edition in January. This may give her some breathing room and, CBS hopes, some sampling by fans of :

a) competition reality series

b) “Idol” fans

c) Abdul fans

before “Idol” kicks in.

And, typically, “Idol’s” Wednesday orgy-of-product-placement-and-results show airs at 9, not 8. But of course, the Fox has been known to move “Idol’s” Wednesday show to 8, blow it up into a two-hour broadcast, and otherwise pretty much do whatever the heck it wants. And, it would be so Fox-like if, now that CBS has announced its Abdul plans, Fox made sure “Idol” crashed her party.

In which case, “Idol” is sure to cream Abdul in the ratings. But, had CBS scheduled “Live to Dance” anywhere else on its schedule, The Reporters Who Cover Television would be devoting two sentences to the announcement. Instead, today, they’re all writing bigger stories about “Abdul vs Idol.”

Which brings us back to “Those clever schedulers at CBS…”
