Idol winner’s debut ‘lukewarm’

From The Straits Times

LOS ANGELES – “AMERICAN Idol” winner Lee DeWyze failed to crack Billboard’s Top 10 singles and digital charts in one of the most tepid debuts yet from a champion of the top-rated reality TV show.

DeWyze’s cover version of U2′s “Beautiful Day” entered in 12th place on the digital charts with 95,000 downloads, and in 24th place on the Hot 100 singles charts, according to Nielsen SoundScan data on Thursday. Runner-up Crystal Bowersox fared no better. Her finale song last week, “Up To the Mountain”, debuted at No. 57 on the singles charts and 32nd place on the digital charts with 49,000 downloads.

The pair’s “Falling Slowly” duet from earlier in the season came in at No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts. Both DeWyze and Bowersox were overshadowed by singer Katy Perry, whose “California Gurls” retook top billing on the digital charts with 269,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Last year’s “American Idol” winner, Kris Allen, sold 134,00 digital downloads of the original song “No Boundaries” in its first week, entering at No.4. The 2008 champion, David Cook, moved 236,000 downloads and grabbed the No.1 digital spot with his single “The Time of My Life”, Billboard said.

The lukewarm reception for DeWyze and Bowersox, who both signed recording contracts with Sony Entertainment Group, follows the lowest-rated finale since 2002 for the Fox television network’s “American Idol”.

Nielsen data showed that 24.2 million viewers tuned in to Fox last week to watch the former paint salesman take the crown in the finale to a 9th season that lost some 9 per cent of its audience overall, but remained the most-watched TV show in the United States. Fans and media watchers say the format for “Idol” is showing its age, and blamed mediocre contestants and lack of chemistry on the judges panel for the dwindling audience.

Season 9 Thank You

Published on May 27, 2010 by in Season 9

Season 9 of American Idol has come to a close. While it wasn’t a record breaking season on the blog it was still fun and it wouldn’t have been the same without all of the regulars who dusted off their keyboards in January and rode through the “Twain” Wreck of a season. You all are what make the blog and the reason I devote the time I do into it.

A gigantic thank you to Angie for blogging the results shows again this season. I need a night off and Angie was there again with her wit and spunk to bring you up to the minute results even if it meant puking through the Adam Lambert performance.

A huge thank you to all my mods. You know who you are. You kept sanity to the comments and the shoutbox even though this season the comments were mild in comparison to the past. I try to read through everything, I can’t and I admit I miss stuff but you guys are there to find it and delete it. Thank you so much. You are all re-hired for next season :)

Alan. You are a great guy to put up with the shit I have put you through this season. I have tormented you in comments, on the shoutbox, on facebook and I even threatened to blow up your farm a couple of times. I look back and wonder how you dealt with my crap. Thank you again for all of your dedication to The Idol Radio Show, my blog, me and the readers. You are truly good at what you do even though we give you a ton of grief over it.

Darryl. Thank you again for allowing idolbloglive.com to be a part of the All Digital Radio Network. I feel we have built an awesome partnership and look forward to working with you again next season. If you ever find a way to fire Alan, I am your man and I want an autographed picture of Dr. Larry :)

Keep in mind that I won’t be closing down the blog until January. Angie and I will still blog So You Think You Can Dance and other various reality shows. I will live blog any awards shows and of course be updating the site daily with various American Idol news. Don’t forget we still need to find Simon’s replacement and I will keep the blog updated with the progress.

Again I thank all of you for visiting and reading this season. I had fun and hope you all did as well. Don’t be a stranger. Stop back often and leave some love.

DJSlim and Season 9 Out

Idol Radio Show (5/25/10)

The Idol Radio Show hosted by Alan Attebery and Sir Darryl from 5/25/10.

[note]

Sir Darryl is very nervous as the next to last “Idol Radio Show” starts. Can he find his inner peace in time to do the show? Darryl says his nervousness is excusable since Crystal Bowersox looked nervous at the beginning of American Idol while Lee DeWyze looked nervous throughout the rest of the show. Alan decides to take a detour off AI to talk about Jesse James (get him OFF our TVs) and Lindsay Lohan (get her IN a rehab program). TMZ had a spy in the rehearsals, which didn’t go as well as one would hope. Alan and Sir Darryl talk about the differences in when people called into the radio show last season versus this season. This leads to a discussion about whether people are voting for the two finalists because of their singing or because of who they are. After the break, the guys talk about each performance and make their picks to win.

During the show, Alan gave out another Nintendo Wii Sports Package secret word or phrase. Put the secret word/phrase in an e-mail and send it, along with your first and last name, to [email protected] by 7 AM CDT on Wednesday, May 26. For each correct secret word or phrase you submit, you will receive an entry for the Season Finale drawing to win a Nintendo Wii Sports Package or one of several other prizes. Visit The Idol Radio Show Website for all the rules and the list of prizes.
