Contractual Obligations

Published on Jun 5, 2008 by in David Archuleta

Contractual obligations have postponed a scheduled homecoming concert for David Archuleta that was supposed to happen on Friday night.

“Back Home With David Archuleta” will be postponed till after the tour as it was not run through the important people at American Idol. The show was masterminded by David’s father Jeff as a thank you to all those who voted for Archie but he failed to get the clearances from the producers. Contractual obligations forbid Archie from events that are non-Idol sanctioned gigs. This one was of course one of those events and the plug was pulled.

According to Jeff the event would have costed $1.00 with $.25 going to a service charge and $.75 being donated to charity. That didn’t matter to Idol and the even is rumored to be in the works but not till the tour is complete and will most likely at that time be sanctioned by Idol with them receiving the profits and not a charity.

I don’t think it’s so much about being hard hearted as it is about trying to get someone under control who is hard headed. Apparently Jeff A is one of those that if you give him an inch, he will take a mile. 19E will aparently put their foot down early and often, if that is what it takes to get Mr. A’s attention.
Well, 19 is simply teaching Jeff that they have rules and he will abide by them. It may have been for a great cause, but Daddy Dearest is going to have to learn he no longer pull all of Archie’s strings.
Agreed – We all want to do good but a Jeff A knew very well, I am sure, what the contract he signed with 19 said. He tried an end run and got stopped. Bet he didn’t think 19 would take the heat cancelling a charity event but they run a business and need to get him to realize that he is no longer the big dog in Archie’s professional life.

David DID sign a contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records. The album will be released towards the end of this year.
It was the charity event that was scratched because of the Idol contract, not his record deal.

Jeff has lost his one on one with his Son. But a contract is a contract, and he knew that when he signed it as Archies legal guardian. Yeah, it is to bad.
But Archie will know better next time he signs one.

I read that in a link Joyce had in the shoutbox. That’s too bad. You would think people would welcome a charity event because, it is SUPPOSE to go to CHARITY.
Before Idol would get the profits, I wouldn’t do it at all. Hopefully after Idol is done, David can still do the event for purposes intended. What big hearts Jeff and David have.

  8. Aw, that’s kind of a bummer. That’s a loooong time to wait for a homecoming concert! I think it’s a really good thing they were giving that much to charity, though.
