Well thats it idol fans. The judges have made the tough choice and delivered yet another tough to beat Top 24. There are a few weak links but all in all I think it is a fairly strong Top 24. As is tradition I always choose my Top 3 Idol contestants and place them in the sidebar on Top 24 night. I will stick with my choices throughout the remainder of the season. If they are sent home I will strike them through. I will not replace them with someone else. So who will it be this season? Well DJSlim’s Top 3 are Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett and Kellie Pickler. What order? I have no idea but I am sticking to my guns and that is my solid Top 3. I am leaning towards Taylor winning the whole thing but only cause we need a male winner this season. All 3 in my opinion would make a solid American Idol.

The name of the song is “Emotions,” by the BeeGees, I believe. It’s the same song that Paris sang with her group.

This is the first season I’ve watched so I do have previously existing thoughts of past seasons. The choice is tuff, but having to pick, I’d say my top three are: Ace (great looks, talent, good guy), Paris (talent and amazing spirit), and Taylor(I don’t even know what to say aboout Taylor, he fascinates me). Some say Kelly will be in the top three, but I think her sweet complex and accent might get old. Chris is awesome and it was hard to choose between him and Ace. I think Mcphee might beat out Paris. I don’t know though really, we’ll have to see.

Fox is setting some folks up for success while hampering others. Even though it’s better this year, the playing field is still not level.
I will say that each year the depth of the contest gets better and better. I don’t think there is anyone who is clearly better than the rest, which on one level is good because it means that the competition is wide open. On the other hand, it also means that the people who had the camera follow them around for a while (Kelly, Chris) will get some extra votes when they might not deserve it.

I haven’t finished downloading the episide because I didn’t get to see it thanks to the moronic programming director at the local Fox affiliate.
It’s almost done, but since I have classes all night, I may not get a chance to watch it until tomorrow.
I realized that I have yet to leave a list of who I believe will be the Top 3, so here we go:
Chris Daughtry: his got it all- the vocals, the “cool” look, and, from what I can tell from other borads, a huge fan base.
Ace Young: Personally, I don’t think his voice is the best, but AI is going to pimp us a guy winner and I think that Ace, with his appeal to the ladies, fairly good voice, and great personality, will be at the end. It would take a massive push for underdogs like Taylor, Kevin, etc to get rid of this man.
Katharine McPhee: She is a redux of Kelly Clarkson and therefore, I don’t think she’ll win, but she’ll come really close. She’s got the voice, she seems pretty nice (though a little fake last night), and we’ve seen her A LOT.
Look for Taylor, Kellie, Paris Bennett, and Will Makar also in the top 7 or 8 spots, probably with David Radford, who WILL be this year’s Carmen Rasmussen/John Stevens/Scott Savol. I guarantee it.
As for next week, I predict Bobby, Gedeon, Brenna, and Melissa will leave. Patrick Hall will turn in an incredibly lousy performance of some cheesy song and Chris and Taylor will blow us away, leaving Simon to say that a guy will win this year (for the first time on the camera and certainly not the last).
PS- Dave, where are you? I’m looking forward to your reactions from last night.

Exposure during auditions isn’t important in determining who makes it to Hollywood. Exposure only helps those who actually make it to Top 24 when we start voting.

Personally, I like Katherine McPhee. She has an amazing voice. I also like Taylor Hicks. I think that he’s trying to do a Ray Charles thing when he sings, but it’s exaggerated. I haven’t thought of a 3rd person though. Part of me wants to root for Sway, but mainly because he’s Filipino, and I feel that I gotta show the love for my people :P But then again, after a while I stopped voting for Jasmine Trias because I liked her singing less and less.
I dunno about Kellie Pickler. I could care less about her back story, because that is not why people should vote for her. There’s already a blonde Idol, and there’s already an Idol named Kelly, so I don’t think she’s going to win.
I LOVE what they said about the arrogant twins! That was so awesome, with the prison bars! HA HA HA HA HA HA! They totally deserved it.
so like, i’m in love with ace young because he is one gorgeous/talented guy…but in a sense i’m also rooting for taylor hicks because something about his voice is so intriguing…anyone agree?

The three best in my opinion were Katharine McPhee- Great voice!! Paris Bennett- She will probably not win, but undoubtly one of the best singers. And Sway Penala- Outstanding voice, incredible range, and hopefully America can get behind a minority again. And I gotta say Kellie Pickler has the image, but not the voice. I would be outraged if she was to win. Just not enough talent there.

Best Talent that wont make it:
Taylor Hicks: Amazing. No one can deny it. Weird as crap. No one can deny it. (I just hope some one gives him a record deal so I can listen to his music, but he never makes a music video because it would be painful)
Paris Bennett: Superb voice. About 65 years to late. It’s a shame because like simon, I love Billie Holiday, but that’s not what most teenie bopers are going to vote for.

Ace Young: We all know this guy is going to get votes. With the majority of the american idol audience still being female, he will exceed his talents in votes.
Chris Daughtry: A “rocker” that can actuall sing other types of music. Thank God.

Kellie Pickler is a shoe-in. Fox has been setting her up since week 1. Cute Girl. Good Voice. Better Story= 1 American Sweetheart.

Everyone is saying Kellie Pickler and I don’t really agree with that one. Her voice is not that great however she is adorable, sweet, and has a great story. Taylor Hicks has a great voice but not the look – unfortunately I think he will get the cut. Paris Bennett has a great voice but very young and too innocent for the popularity vote. I’m not sure how Elliott will do but I thought he sounded great last night. Thank god the twins got DQ’d – Wish Jose would’ve kicked Terrell’s ….

I am happy with the top 24 this year… I think someone else could have taken Brenna’s spot, but whatever… Kelly Pickler is definately my favorite girl. As for the guys I’m not too sure. There were several that I really like. Chris, Ace, Taylor, Eliott, Sway… to name a few. Maybe Taylor is my favorite guy? Sure he doesn’t fit the pop star “look” but I really like his voice. I’m glad he made it to the Top 24!!
And HAHA to the Brittnem twins! I’m glad they got disqualified! I could care less if they can sing or not… Their attitudes turned me off from the first day of the Hollywood round!
Finally!! I was sooo sick of all the bad stuff!

I am really pleased with the top 24 from the talent that they had to work with. I still think that better singers got turned away for whatever reason. If I had to pick a top 3 it would be Katharine, Paris, and Kinnik. They are really good. Maybe throw Mandisa into the bunch.
Here are some of my thoughts-
Katharine McPhee: Though I love her, I can’t believe she made a big deal about Crystal Stark. Why would you do this? It makes her look incredibly fake—as did her elevator confessional. As for her audition, I wasn’t impressed… it was, as Randy said, “a little harrowing.” She seemed so controlled in her audition, but certainly didn’t show this in her last Hollywood audition. I hope she continues doing well—and avoids the overwhelming runs that she did in her a capella performance.
Brenna Gethers: Loud and obnoxious. And her Hollywood performance was especially awful. Talk about trying to be a comedian. Did anybody notice that she took offense to the word “Precocious”? I thought that was pretty good. I have a feeling she’s more like Mikalah—incredibly overconfident—than anybody else. I’m going to take the cue from the others in the room. Nobody seemed happy for her—it’s probably because she’s a complete jerk.
Gedeon McKinney: He makes funny faces when he sings, but he does it well. However, I don’t think he’ll make it too far. We haven’t seen much of him and he’s cocky, which will spell disaster (and Simon said he wouldn’t have put him through if he had heard his speech—that’ll plant the seed).
Stevie Scott: She has a good a voice, but what about those loud breaths she takes? It’s like Kim Locke all over again. What a great attitude though—humility and excitement.
Chris Daughtry: I hate rockers—a lot. But I LOVE this guy. He’s great. I love how he takes great songs and changes them up a bit. He’s going to be amazing. I just hope he doesn’t get comparisons to the previous rockers Bo and Constantine because I think he’s so much better than them. And of course, he’s got a great story. Yay!
Bucky Covington: I’ve heard him referred to as Joe Dirt and I think I’m going to agree. But he does seem to have a good voice. He’s different and that’s always welcome.
Paris Bennett: I loved “Fever.” She’s awesome when she’s in her element. I’m just a bit worried about her on theme nights. Let’s see what she can bring to this competition.
Kellie Pickler: She said earlier that she had never sung for anyone else. I don’t understand how this is possible because she’s so amazing. She may be a talker, but she’s a singer too. I’m excited.
Taylor Hicks: He’s great, but I really hate to watch him sing. It doesn’t get any more obnoxious than watching him spasm as he performs. Blues-y yes, but he’s taxing to watch. He also reminds me of Jay Leno.
Kinnik and Megan: They were both pretty good. I think Kinnik’s great, but I feel like Megan’s performance was just as good—even if it wasn’t as powerful. I think the problem with tonight was the emphasis upon the power singers. As Randy says, control is a sign of a good singing, too.
William Makar: William is great though I wasn’t a fan of his reaction to his name being called. I hope he keeps doing well—he was the star of his group in the Hollywood rounds.
Extra Notes: I understand building the suspense, but it gets really old to continually try to convince contestants that they haven’t made it when they really did. It’s funny at first, but stupid after awhile.
Also, I loved the way that they dealt with the Brittenum twins. One could look at this as a scandal in which they didn’t know about their own contestants, but instead they make it into a joke. It’s a brilliant idea and one that the Brittenum brats completely deserve.
Hi, i’m new to this but i just wanted to leave my top three…..OH! my name’s lorraine…. and for sum reason i have been so vigorously into the fifth season.. i really like the contestants.. but my top three.. (which i might add was a very difficult decision.. i can’t imagine what the judges were thinking…)
are: Ace Young, David Radford and Kellie Pickler… i wish they could all make it but ya……. ok well thanks and i’ll be watching next week!

my faves: paris, taylor (agree with you on those two – i really think taylor is my top pick, i love the bluesy feeling, and what a great entrance with the harmonica!), but my third would be a toss-up between kevin, ace, gideon, and chris. i’ll say chris for the purposes of your competition.
I haven’t seen the episode yet (pre-empted by basketball), but have they shown all of the 24 semi-finalists at some point? Or are we going to have another batch like Aloha, Celena and Melinda who are going to be making quick exits because they didn’t get the same air time as Abandoned by Mother, Vocal Coach Mother, and Basketball Girl?
Will Makar is the hottest guy i have ever seen!!=) If he makes it too the top ten you better believe iw will be right there cheering!! Love you will! Keep it up!
