(Cue the Host)
Tonight it is country night and the Top 7 head to the stage to once again gather your support and votes. Boards, polls and gambling sites all over the net predict a Phil departure tomorrow instead of Sanjaya. Could it happen? Will Sanjaya stick around again tomorrow night? We will see. First the performances. Ladies and Gents, your Top 7.
Note : I have blogged the Top7 live via the East Coast feed. See who sang what and what the judges thought below. Comments will be turned on sometime after 9pm EST. In the meantime please use the chatbox on the sidebar. I have fixed the problem with passwords being emailed when you register. I promise now you will get a password. All names that were registered in the past couple of weeks have been erased. Please register again and you will get a password. I also fixed the confirmation email that no one was getting when changing your avatar. It should work now just fine.

Name : Phil Stacey
Phone Number : 1-866-436-5701
Song Title : Where the Blacktop Ends
Judges Thoughts : (R) Dude you could have a career in country music. Now I know Phil Stacey. (P) You sound good. (S) It’s only taken 10 weeks. The only time I have thought you have chosen a good song. We even saw some personality.
DJSlim’s Thoughts : I can sort of picture Phil doing country. A lot more than a couple of the other contestants. As for the performance well it wasn’t that good plus he got the first slot tonight. Idol has set him up for the bottom 3 without even performing. My verdict bottom 3 and probably the one going home only because of the Sanjaya movement that is in full force. 15/25
Name : Jordin Sparks
Phone Number : 1-866-436-5702
Song Title : Broken Wing
Judges Thoughts : (R) Probably one of the most difficult songs ever sung but that was the bomb. (P) You look gorgeous. You did a fantastic job. (S) First time since we have met that I believe with that performance you could win American Idol.
DJSlim’s Thoughts : Always tough to sing the vocal coaches song but Jordin did a decent job. Quite “pitchy” in a few spots but overall nice. Almost a little Patsy Cline to her voice. The dress, well that is another story. It looked nice but wasn’t country at all. 20/25
Name : Sanjaya
Phone Number : 1-866-436-5703
Song Title : Let’s Give Him Something to Talk About
Judges Thoughts : (R) That was really karaoke. (P) Someone who loves adversity. (S) Utterly horrendous. As bad as anything we would see at the beginning of American Idol. It was hideous. Ridiculous choice of song.
DJSlim’s Thoughts : Oh he will give us something to talk about. I fear we will be talking about the Sanjaya movement for years to come. Sad thing is every week he is getting more and more votes. Guess what? He still gets 10/25 Damn Shyamali wasn’t in the crowd.
Name : Lakisha
Phone Number : 1-866-436-5704
Song Title : Jesus Take the Wheel
Judges Thoughts : (R) Some pitch problems. Not my favorite vocal for you. (P) I agree with what Randy says. Sounded like you were shouting. (S) Its like eating a hamburger for breakfast, they don’t go together. You and that song didn’t go together. It didn’t feel like a natural song.
DJSlim’s Thoughts : Can we say daring? And it didn’t pay off at all. At all. Lakisha get your stuff ready. You are heading to the bottom 3 and home if Phil doesn’t go. 15/25
Name : Chris Richardson
Phone Number : 1-866-436-5705
Song Title : Mayberry
Judges Thoughts : (R) You sang it ok. I just didn’t feel any connection, any emotion. (P) The joy and the love you have on stage didn’t come through. (S) What I heard I heard was a nasally vocal which had no impact on me at all.
DJSlim’s Thoughts : Ouch another rough performance. Remember you can’t point the mic at the speaker. It will squeal. I guess I won’t throw Chris in the bottom 3 only cause it was a decent attempt at country but it was still pretty awful. 16/25
Name : Melinda Doolittle
Phone Number : 1-866-436-5706
Song Title : Trouble is a Women
Judges Thoughts : (R) All I can say is that is another solid performance from our resident pro. (P) A girl who knows how to perform like there is no tomorrow. (S) It was fantastic. I saw a little Tina Turner going on there.
DJSlim’s Thoughts : Finally something fun and actually worth listening too. Melinda is still looking homely as hell but she has the voice. 22/25
Name : Blake Lewis
Phone Number : 1-866-436-5707
Song Title : When the Stars Go Blue
Judges Thoughts : (R) You picked the right song and the arrangment suited you. That was nice. (P) You have the whole package. Its fun to watch you. (S) It wasn’t a jumping out of my chair performance but it was ok.
DJSlim’s Thoughts : I actually hated it. What a horrible way to end the show. Blake will still be around no matter what.15/25
DJSlim’s Top 2 : Melinda Doolittle, Jordin Sparks
DJSlim’s Bottom 4 : Sanjaya, Phil Stacey, Lakisha, Blake Lewis
DJSlim’s Pick to Go Home : The odds are Phil, could be Lakisha, should be Sanjaya.
What an awful show. I can’t believe this is the Top 7. I have to say by far this is really becoming the absolute worst season of American Idol I have seen. I wish we could go back to the drawing board and pick 24 new contestants. Maybe they could bring back Shyamali.

I don’t think the rules say anything about being pro or amateur. Several of the contestants (Taylor Hicks, Daughtry, Baley Brown) had personal websites and cd’s for sale prior to appearing on AI. I think the only rule is that the contestant cannot currently be under contract.
Melinda just happens to be the best of the professional contestants. Remeber Brandon Rodgers was also a back up singer this year, but he finished 12th. For Fox and AI this is entertainment, reality tv, ratings and money. It’s just wrapped up to look like a singing competition. They’ve even got Ryan and Simon sounding like a couple of WWE RAW contestants.

ah, i got ya know. those were all the performance videos from last night. you must not have the plugin installed on your browser to view them. I am actually surprised it didn’t ask you if you wanted to install it or given a place to do it somewhere. I am not sure which plugins you need so I am unable to help you there. anyone have any idea?
DJSlim -
It may just be me and my computer, but the pictures on your last post are not showing up?
Were (are) they really good ones? Alrighty then -
Which pictures? please point me in the right direction, I am seeing everything here and I have about 40 zillion windows open right now.
What are the chances of everyone being shocked by Sanjaya actually going home? I think it should happen – but not likely darn it! I think Jordin has done the most improving of all of them and agree with Simon that she could actually take it. Melinda is already a pro and really should not be in this competition. Blake is awesome also – he has a different style from all the rest. Lakisha has lost alot of “ground” and I believe she will head home in a few weeks. Phil did awesome last night, but I don’t know if it was enough to keep him from the bottom three, but I don’t think he will be leaving tonite. My prediction is Chris, Sanjaya and Lakisha in the bottom three with Chris saying Bye-bye. Most of us know/think it should be Sanjaya – I think he is all in for a few more weeks!
somebody actually agrees with me on melinda..this is a show for the best amateur performers and finding them….. melinda has her foot already in the door of making a major recording contract being a backup singer for famous people…. hello…. not fair when shes there and already made it pretty much and up against great “undiscovered”talent who doesnt have their foot in with famous people just yet….. ugh…. im mad at that. great amateurs who need to be discovered…. melinda …go home…

I was glad to see Simon tell Sanjaya how horrible he is. Tell it like it is like he told several that are now gone. He shouldn’t have made the top 24. I agree that Melinda should not be in this since she is a professional singer. Sanjaya should be gone, but I predict it will be Phil.
SIMI;
Did you have your ears pierced and it shattered an ear drum? Mowgli cannot sing at this point. What he needs is a vocal coach and a couple of years of real experience. He is just not ready for the big show.
Here, Here! Sue! I agree!
SIMI –
What does being an Indian have to do with a singing contest? Who cares what race and or skin color? Are you prejudice? Must be – who would come up with a statement like that if they weren’t. Maybe most don’t like him because he has stayed on while others that can actually sing have gone home!! How dare you tell us why we don’t like him. My dear, he simply can’t sing – has nothing to do with him being an Indian. Have a Great Day – and remember God made us all, the same and yet different – Jesus Christ died for all of mankind!
I don’t usually vote either but last night I felt compelled to vote for Phil because I didn’t want to see him go home and have Chris stay. Of course Sanjaya should go home but it’s not likely, so my vote is for Chris to go home. His voice is way too nasal sounding. I can’t believe his comeback was sounding nasally is a type of singing! His voice is way too whinny to be considered great. As for Blake, I like his style but does he really have a great voice? Melinda and Jordin have great voices. I think Jordin should win it but it will probably be Melinda.
And then there was country. Phil – you actually can sing my man! Awesome. Ms Jordin – my favorite. This gal can do anything and 17? Who would have guessed that? Melinda -Why do you need American Idol? Go about your career and let the others have a chance. Blake – different from the rest – you are awesome sir! Lakisha – where did you go? Not the same gal as a few weeks ago when you were running with the top. Chris – well dawg, you just haven’t done a thing for me at all this season – not getting any better, not getting any worse. Boring and no Justin Timberlake by any means. Sanjaya – young enough to be one of my own children, so keep on until they vote you off. It was funny and it is getting old now. You have a great smile, but you should go on back to school now and practice on those vocals!!
Top two from Country=
1.) Jordin
2.) Blake
Bottom 2 from Country=
Sanjaya and Chris
Going Home =
Bye, Bye Chris!
What a long, strange trip it’s been!! Happy Idoling!
What are the chances of everyone being shocked by Sanjaya actually going home? I think it should happen – but not likely darn it! I think Jordin has done the most improving of all of them and agree with Simon that she could actually take it. Melinda is already a pro and really should not be in this competition. I think either Lakisha, Chris or Sanjumbalaya will be going home tonight. Hope it is Sanjumbalaya !!!!!! Bye bye Sanjy !!! :em66:
My bottom 2: Lakisha and Sanjaya. It may be that I’ve never liked Lakisha, but I think she sounded horrible last night. She definitely chose the wrong song. The other needs no explanation.
Melinda is Melinda.
Blake wasn’t bad.
Chris didn’t sound near as bad to me as many of you.
Phil sounded decent.
Jordin…also decent.
No one blew my socks off, but a couple did make me want to turn it off.
Simi,
The reason a lot of people don’t like Sanjaya is not because he’s Indian, but because he’s a BAD singer!
Melinda and Jordan were great, my man Blake had an off night, and I hope Chris goes home – not only because his performance was bad, but also for his incredibly poor-taste pandering for votes by mentioned the Virginia Tech tragedy.
And KUDOS to Simon for putting Ryan in his place!! About time someone told him to SHUT UP!
Melinda…Melinda and Melinda…she’s perfect as a singer.
Wow- I’m not even a Jordan fan, but there was no denying it; she blew the competion out the water last night. The vocal was awesome, the performance was fantastic, she looked great.. I usually don’t vote, but last night I felt compelled to vote for Jordan, and I completely agree with Simon.
i hope sanjaya doesnt go,the show wud be so boring after he leaves..and lets not lie…the dude can sing..he just never has the right energy…to me the reason why ppl dont like him is because he’s indian….as for me I LOVE SANJAYA!!!!not because he is the worst…but because i like him as a person and he is so adorable….. :em70:
I thought my girl Jordan did pretty good. Phil made some ground imo. Melinda did okay but I don’t think the song showcased her voice. It was more of a well rounded performance though. Sanjaya still sux and I thought Simon was an inch away from saying just that but he held back a little. You can tell he’s getting a little sick of the whole Sanjaya game. Thought they were a little harsh on Lakisha even if it wasn’t her best performance- she may have set the bar too high early and now she is competing with her past performances vice the other singers. Sorry to the Chris fans. I thought he was good a few weeks back but I think the nasal sound is starting to wear on me a little bit. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.
DRUDGE REQUEST: IF ANY READERS WOULD SO KINDLY SEND A STILL PHOTO CAPTURE OF TONIGHT’S ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ WHEN JUDGE SIMON COWELL ROLLS HIS EYES AFTER SINGER CHRIS RICHARDSON COMMENTS ON THE VA TECH SHOOTINGS… MAIL PHOTO TO … THANKS IN ADVANCE…
Man, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but I hope there is a shocker!
Here’s how I saw it:
My Top 3:
1. Melinda Doolittle (She had an awesome performance, and it looks like she’s gonna quit that whole shy thing too. Everybody wins!)
2. Blake Lewis (It was very sweet. …I’m straight, okay?)
3. Jordin Sparks (Good performance, last half was better than the first.)
My Bottom 3:
3. Chris Richardson (I kinda forgot his performance altogether.)
2. Sanjaya Malakar (The slides seemed way too forced.)
1. LaKisha Jones (She killed it at the chorus. She’s can outperform anyone, but she can’t outperform herself.)
You know, Simon’s comment reminded me of something I saw on this newsblog, “What the Buck?” How Melinda was always surprised when she gave an awesome performance. “Doesn’t she know she can sing by now? [...] Don’t act so surprised or maybe we’ll change our minds.” I’m glad someone said it.
Well… yep I’m pouting.. no one wore a hat for me…
It went pretty much as I predicted it would….
My favorites of the night were Jordin ( loved it ), Phil ( yay for a change).. and Chris.. in that order
I know a lot of people don’t like Chris… and I agree tonight wasn’t as good as he could have made it be… but he really did sound like Rascal Flatts when they sing that song, I’m not sure Id call it nasally… but it is a common country sound… The problem I have with Chris tonight is that he wasn’t feeling it… so I don’t think anyone else was either.
I don’t know what Lakisha was thinking… that was maybe the worst choice of song she could have made… and she didn’t even come close to hitting it… I almost died laughing when my little girl said.. dang mom I sound better than that when I sing that song.
I was a little disappointed that they didn’t at least mention Bucky Covington’s CD dropped today… seems like they should have being it was country night. I believe his single “A Different World” is already #25 on the Billboard country singles chart.

actually I haven’t had it in for Blake since the get go. get your facts straight please before informing me of my own thoughts :)
If anyone listens to country music one would think Jordan was off on that song. I like her, but her rendition was not up to par with the original. I think LaKesha is going home. Blake and Phil got my votes tonight. I can’t stand Melinda – well it is clear that her stylists are lisening to web bloggers because her style is significantly more youthful. It really ticked me off when Randy said what a pro she was. I thought Idol was not for pros.
While I understand what you are saying, I really don’t WANT the Idol singers to sound like the originals. I pretty much just want them to do the songs justice.
American Idol is for anyone. The main thing is, they can’t have a current recording contract with anyone. The fact that Melinda has been working as a back-up singer shouldn’t matter. She happens to be really good. That is why she is on the show.
In my opinion, of course. Shouldn’t that be a given, here?

Ok, so here are my thoughts..as if anyone cares… :em32:
Phil–he did better than he has in recent weeks. Still not a great vocal. He interacted with the audience and it looked awkward. 6 1/2 out of 10
Jordin–I L.O.V.E. Jordin! She looked gorgeous tonight and picked a great song. She did a fabulous job. 9/10
Sanjaya–Painfully flat and just all-around bad. 3/10
Lakisha–I loved her dress and she looked really pretty tonight. I love how Martina McBride got all choked up listening to Lakisha sing. I listened to her performance twice more and she definitely got a bad rap from the judges and everyone else who said she shouted. She sounded great. I’ve been voting like crazy for her because she deserves to stay over Sanjaya, Phil and Chris. 8/10
Chris–Ok, first I have to say, I HATE Rascal Flatts with a passion. So, going in, that was strike one against Chris. But seriously, Chris was just awful. Then, he chose to have attitude with Simon and I HATE that probably more than I hate Rascal Flatts (and Constantine in Season 4). Hey, Chris? Nasally is a way of singing? Huh? What was THAT comment about? If he means that he was TRYING to sound like the god-awful lead singer of Rascal Flatts, then ok, I’ll agree. 5/10
Melinda–I didn’t care much for her top, but it did look better when she was standing up, rather than when she was sitting with Ryan. I didn’t know the song she chose at all, but she did a fabulous job. Melinda is consistant, even through weeks of odd song choices we can count on her to do very well. 9 1/2 out of 10
Blake–I was bored. And then Amy (a regular around here at Idolbloglive) reminded me that he looks like Bill Murray in Caddyshack! Thanks Amy because now I can’t stop laughing. Anyway, I thought Blake gave a pretty weak performance. It wasn’t horrible, just..eh. (I love the song he did, but the Bono/girl from the Corrs version.) 6/10
Far and away, I thought this week was tons better than Latin week! I thought I would hate country night, but really, it was pretty decent.
I won’t even begin to guess who is going home tomorrow.
I thought Phil was really good night. It’s too bad he’ll probably be going home. Jordin was awesome as usual and so was Melinda. Blake was alright even though I can’t stand him. Lakisha definately picked the wrong song and it showed. Chris was alright and Sanjaya was really bad.
Jordin lit the place up tonight and did in fact put herself in a position to win this thing.
Stumbleyia almost made me puke!!! The worst performance in the history of AI outside of the auditions.
The show was great tonight. Any of the seven would be worthy of being the American Idol!!!
(Just joking, I haven’t seen it yet!)
:em62:
i was scared for a second.
The show was great tonight. Any of the seven would be worthy of being the American Idol!!!
(Just joking, I haven’t seen it yet!) :em62:
I though Phil was very good tonight. And have hated all of sanjaya’s songs. He needs to go home.Chris can do better.Jodan was very good.My pick to win would have to be Jordan.
:em51:
Lakisha singing a Carrie Underwood song? That wasn’t a good thing.
Blake and Melinda were hot tonight!!! They will be in the final 2.
Phil was awesome tonight as I expected he would be. I think Chris should be the one going home, but won’t be surprised if the judges harsh comments will finally lead to the dismantling of Sanjaya. Kellie Pickler was never in the bottom 3 last year and when she got to the top 6, the judges were similarly harsh and she left the next show. I think Phil saved himself and that’s a good thing, since he is clearly the best male vocalist on the show and it would be a shame to see him finish behind three other guys. There may be a surprise in the bottom three aka Blake.
Bottom 3: Chris, Phil (undeservingly so), Sanjaya
Home: Chris
Tonight I liked
Phil Stacey
Sanjy (Sorry)
Melinda doalot!
Blake Lewis!
Comments:
Jordan: Boring.. Sorry. When Simon said that she could be the next american idol I was thinking back to when he said that to Taylor. Mmmmmmmmmmm Taylor! :)
Sanjy: Well he was good! I liked him.. *ducks incase someone throws something at me*
Lakisha: The judges were right she was shouting.. Actually I was thinking screaming..
Blake: YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!
Whew, that was hard. Only Melinda, Jordin and I really liked Phil tonight. The rest were awful, awful. Sad night. Chris bad! Sanjaya TERRIBLE, Lakisha stinky and I’m not a real big fan of Blakes. So I guess tomorrow will tell eh?
I have a feeling Chris is going home
