Live Blog Begins Here

After 100,000 auditions we are down to 181 people all of which are trying to be the next American Idol. Oh yeah we have Alan Atteberry’s favorite new judge, Ellen. Man she will bring so much to the show.

Day 1 Of Hollywood
Contestants arrive for a week of hell. The lucky ones will go home today and not have to deal with the drama. Ryan introduces Ellen and the judges take their seats.

Contestants come out on stage in a group of 8 and sing. Sudden death. You either move on or are sent home in a hurry.

Katy Stevens gets a pass to the next round while “Skiiboski” is sent packing. Off to commercial.

Returning from the sponsors Simon is having a bad day and Ellen trying to be a comedian to lighten things up. The next group up finds Andrew Garcia moving along which makes the wifey quite happy. Vanessa Williams isn’t as lucky. She is packing her bags and heading home on the “airoplane” she flew in on and we head to another commercial break.

Back from the latest commercial we are still on Day 1 and find more people hitting the tarmac at LAX. We do see Janell Wheeler and she is an amazingly hot little blond who moves on. Haeley Vaughn and Mary Powers move on.

46 contestants in total from Day 1 move on and we head to another commercial.

Day 2 Of Hollywood

We return to the contestants that didn’t perform on Day 1 in the same setup, groups of 8 on stage, sudden death. We hear Lily Scott, she is moving on.

The next group on the stage brings Michael Lynch whose wife is in labor while he is performing. Of course he is moving on and we head to the guys who pay the bills, you got it, commercials.

Returning from break we listen to more contestants sing including my early favorite Maddy Curtis who heads home. What were the judges thinking? Casey James left his shirt on today, sorry Kara. It may have helped. He moves on. Another damn commercial.

Wrapping up Day 2 and individual singing we have our final group of 8. Didi Benami is in the group and of course she moves on to the group rounds. I like her. Hope she makes Top 24 (hint hint). Crystal Bowersox is also in the group and she moves on as well.

In total 95 contestants move on to the group rounds. Tune in again tomorrow night as I blog the show live. Don’t forget to leave your thoughts about tonight in a comment.

  1. @ Easy Rider:

she was in the running. it was actually a tough call picking the 3 hottest girls this year. almost all of them are attractive. Now I just hope they can sign

  2. Easy Rider

@ D J Slim. I’m surprised that you don’t have Janell Wheeler in your top 3 picks Slim. :cheerful:

Part #2…Lily seems destined for fame no matter what happens to her on the show.Michael Lynche reminds me of Michael Sarver from last season, no real talent but a great personality. Casey like Andrew Garcia has something real special.Didi has a unique voice that sounds pretty.

  4. Thank you for putting these videos up! What strikes me most is the pure talent and “musicianship” of the contestants you posted–gave me hope for a wonderful season! Thank you!

  5. Rob

    @ rachel:
No Sanjia’s, major drama queens, or Mariah wannabees- woohoo!

    @ Rob:
“Is it just me or does it seem like we have a lot of great “folksy” talent this year? I’m liking it.”

    Same here, Rob.
Looks like it will be a much calmer year too !

  7. Sonya

    @ Easy Rider:

Bowersox certainly does have the pipes to make the finals.
    ============================
Yeah I love her! She is one of my favorites! I am gonna nickname her CBS. :) No not the network. ROFL! From her name. Crystal BowerSox. :)

  8. ABB

I agree, Rob. I think that Justin Williams didn’t make it because he came across as too “musical theatre” technique oriented as vs the very individual folksy singers.

  9. Easy Rider

    @ Rob:
    I think so too Rob.

In the bit of tomorrows’ show, did we get a glimpse of Andrew being upset because he was told to leave? I hope not!

  11. Rob

Is it just me or does it seem like we have a lot of great “folksy” talent this year? I’m liking it

  12. jalin

Katy Stevens is my first choice. I saw and heard something special.

  13. Easy Rider

Katy has a cute small voice, but not enough range. Andrew uses what he has well as a stylist and really gets in your head. Janell will be in the top 5 I’ll bet. Haeley’s got something different, we’ll see and I hope she gets over her jitters.I’m really glad to see so many guitar players. One really needs to master chords to learn their key and to hit notes correctly.

    @ Easy Rider:
Bowersox certainly does have the pipes to make the finals.

  15. Easy Rider

    @ ABB:
I have not seen her, but Amy’s comment gives me a vision and makes me lol!

  16. Sonya

Ellen: She was so funny! The woman who has no socks and shoes on Ellen says the that Hollywood is dirty ROFL! And then she tells a group to step forward and step back and step to the side ROFL! They are all through. That was a good one Ellen. :)

Lily Scott: Did they show her audition? I don’t remember her.

Casey James: I am so glad Kara or even Randy didn’t tell him to take his shirt off!

  17. @ rachel:

it will easily be a girls year this season :)

My money is on Katelyn Epperly winning the whole thing

  18. rachel

From what I’ve heard so far, I bet it’s going to be a girl’s year this season.

  19. rachel

I also liked Lily Scott and Crystal Bowersox.
As much as I liked quite a few people tonight, no one has “blown my socks off” like other years. So far, anyways…

  20. ABB

I really like Crystal Bowersox at the end, but I sure wish she spent as much time at the dentist as she spent in a tattoo parlor.

  21. well we saw a ton of Top 24 contestants tonight. this is going to be a great season with a lot of talent.

  22. ABB

I really liked Lily Scott – hope she eventually gets a more natural hair color

  23. rachel

And I do like Ellen !!!

  24. rachel

I like Andrew Garcia and Janell Wheeler so far.
How on earth did some of them get through to Hollywood ??? :dizzy:

  25. ABB

Andrew Garcia was wonderful. I’ll be watching for him. Didn’t like Vanessa.

  26. loving Katy Stevens :)
