“Back Pockets On The Floor”

Did General Larry Platt plagiarize his song, Pants On The Ground?

In 1996, the Green Brothers recorded their song, Back Pockets On The Floor, a song that has many similarities to General Larry Platt’s Pants On The Ground. General Platt, by his own admission, has only been doing the song for about five years now. There seem to be quite a few similarities between the two songs. Reportedly, however, the Green Brothers are not looking to sue but, instead, capitalize on the popularity Pants On The Ground has garnered.

What do you think? Did General Larry Platt plagiarize? Was he merely influenced? Is the whole thing a huge coincidence? Leave your thoughts in a comment and I (Alan) may read them on the air during next week’s Idol Radio Show.

While it is possible Gen Larry got the idea from this video for his song. It’s hard to say for certain. One reason is you really only have a beat in rapping and the melodies or tunes are faint while the beat is dominent.
The other reason it would be hard to determine is everywhere you look in our society you see young black and some white youths walking around with their pants hanging down low and their hats crooked.
So to see two older black gentlemen dislike the youths dresscode and record songs voicing their disaproval is no real surprise. One could vote either way.
