Howard Stern has confirmed on his radio show that FOX is interested in giving him Simon’s seat on American Idol next year.

[note]Stern confirmed a report that Fox is interested in hiring the Sirius shock jock to replace Simon Cowell on the reality show.

“There’s not a better job on the planet than judging that f—ing karaoke contest,” Stern said.

“It might be possible, we’ll see,” he said, adding: “They’d have to pay me a ton of dough because I already make a ton of dough.”

Stern’s five-year, $500 million contract with Sirius expires at the end of the year.[/note]

The whole “shock jock” thing is just an act… a gimmick.

He’s a very personable and highly intelligent chap when he’s not “in character” … and he could potentially be an excellent replacement for Cowell!

Any way you slice it, though, it just won’t be the same without Simon and Paula…

well.. I can only say that if he’s a smart man, he should demand that the show will be more about finding the right artists and creating music, rather than being a muppet show for the world (and Simon included) to laugh at, as it is now. Nowadays, the show focuses on vocals and fashion. If you’re not good looking enough you won’t make it, and if your vocals are mediocre you won’t make it either, without any refference to your capabilities as a performer or as a recording artist. If the show would become more genuwine about that, it would become a success in a magnitude of biblical proportions.
Those who do count are usually numbered down to three or four at best, and they usually end up in the finals. Plus, there should be a round where they’d have to write their own songs, which means that they should have some background in creating music on their own, or at least in performing live in front of an audience. That should narrow down the amount of auditioners from hundreds of thousands to several thousands.

P.S. he’d might be good at being sarcastic, but I’d much prefer someone who is known for his or her history in the music industry. People like Sting, Fiona Apple, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Alanis Morissette, David Bowie and many others..

Bring on X factor. I’m ready.

I’m thinking that the producer is thinking that they are going to lose a lot of fans when Simon leaves and who would come to the show bringing his own fans in a mega amount?…and they are betting that HS fans will follow him where ever he goes and that will make up for any fans lost due to Simon leaving…they don’t care that he is a creep and has no clue how to judge a talented singer..when they pay him, they are paying for his fan base…just a guess…Other wise—–why was he picked?? Also, he is going to have to give his fans some of what made him popular in the first place…sex sells..I bet they up the age limit for auditions and start it at 18…hmmm.

No harm, no foul. It’s all good.

  6. angie

Yeah, that’s what we need…a judge referring to it as ‘that f***ing karaoke show.’ My skin CRAWLS at the thought of him being on AI. Talk about INAPPROPRIATE…gah!!

  7. @ starshine0810:

Not meant to be a slap Starshine, not in any way

    @ Terilynn:
    touche!

  9. Yes the worries of the world are so much more important, however, we all deserve a few moments of entertainment with out the fear of totally being insulted as a human being. It will be the X-factor for me if Stern takes the spot, then I won’t have to worry about it

  10. Kara’s or any of the others antics on the show are so mild compared to what will happen if Stern takes over Simon’s slot

    @ randomx6:
do you mean like—There’s not a better job on the planet than judging that f—ing karaoke contest,” Stern said. But
you are right, if that had been reversed and it were Howard Stern doing it to some girl, (and he will), we would be livid. The whole path the show is taking is getting a little sick…or am I just getting old? anyway, I am really concerned because Howard Stern is going to replace Simon, then I realized how little that was..What we should be really concerned about is Iran having a nuke warhead..

    @ DrillerAA:
Sorry Driller – not pointed at you, just a figure of speech…I’ve never known you to be less than honest!

  13. @ randomx6:
I AM being honest! I have NO use for Howard Stern!

  14. randomx6

Let’s be honest, after Kara had that boy take off his shirt, can Howard be any worse? I doubt it and at least he is able to string sentences together unlike the waste of space.

  15. I can honestly say, that if Stern should become a judge, I will NO longer watch the show. I have absolutely NO use for Howard Stern.

I’m not sure ‘polls’ matter to the producers, if so, they would have found a way to keep Paula. Most polls wanted her to stay. What I fear is that possibly all the wonderful singers and performers that have done well on the coat strings of this show and now their credibility will not be the same, like if you build a beautiful house, a mansion, and have it deteriorate over time,,are we still going to be impressed about the people who say they lived there once?? maybe a bad metaphor..but do you get it? For their sake, I wish this show would just end on a high note and move on.

  17. @ ABB:

i will put that poll up later in the week.

  18. ABB

I highly doubt they’d pay him his unrealistic asking fee. Besides, if you posted a poll asking people if they would continue to watch AI if Stern became a judge, I imagine the NOs would drown out the Yeas!

  19. Now that would pretty much kill the show

  20. Easy Rider

I doubt Sirius will offer Stern another 500 million dollars because “pay radio” never reached the peak of investers expectations. His name only took it so far. I’m not the most moral person one could ever meet, to be sure! But I do have some regard to the measure of my character by the opinion of society.
So I dare ask, what does this say about the scruples of this show? :w00t:
