American Idol will be adding a 4th judge this season to help the panel of Simon, Paula and Randy. In an announcement made earlier today, Grammy-nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi, will be added to the cast of clowns that judge each an every performance.
Fox’s President, Mike Darnell, said “With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more ‘girl power’ on the show.
DioGuardi’s songs have appeared on more than 100 million records and been recorded by Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Santana, and Pink.
DioGuardi, 37, also appeared as a judge on ABC’s The One: Making a Music Star.
So what do you think? Will adding a 4th judge help or hinder the contestants? Is Kara DioGuardi the right choice or should it have been someone else? Leave a comment and lets discuss.

:getlost: are u kidding me! this is so dumb! i dont want a forth judge in the 8th season of american idol! what are they thinking! they are really trying to kill the show arent they!!!
Nobody really cares what the judges say unless it’s coming out of Simon’s mouth, adding one more judge will just give us one more senceless critique to listen to. I say BAD, BAD idea.
Totally agree. They are just making the show closer to dying year by year. They tried the four judges before and it didn’t work out. I’m surprised they are trying it again.
Can you say… B O R I N G ?
DioWho? Why would anybody think Paula needs help and or an ally. Nobody really cares what the judges say unless it’s coming out of Simon’s mouth, adding one more judge will just give us one more senceless critique to listen to. I say BAD, BAD idea. Call me crazy but I love Paula’s meaningless ramblings.
She was on Fox 5 news this morning and she said she will be “herself” (what-e-ver), offering nurturing comments as well as critiques when necessary. Sounds like a cross between Paula and Randy. She’s very attractive, wonder if she’ll dress like Paula as well…..
im not sure about this… simon wasn’t even given enough time to talk, and HE IS the most sensible of the clowns… :ermm:
Maybe they are working her in as someone’s replacement  Still not a good idea time will tell.
I can’t say I quite like the idea… when they have guest judges their opinions don’t seem real to me. I couldn’t really care less what they have to say. So personally I think it is a bad idea. And if they are gonna keep making bad ideas (thanks to Simon/Nigel) then they are gonna ruin the well-liked tradition of the show.
dumb move. It will blow up in their faces. Unless, of course, someone hits Randy and Paula on the head with something large and hard … Nah, too much to hope for.
Good lord…WHY???? This will only slow the whole dang thing down. Why must we have more judges comments?? 3 is not enough?? I can’t even tell you how much I hate this idea. The only…ONLY..redeeming factor will be if she actually gives constructive criticism. Still, when will there be time???
I hate this.
25% more worthless comments. Less time for advertising. How will Idol cope?

I don’t like it. There is no need for a 4th judge. Why are they adding her? Simon did say that he wants to leave soon so maybe she is there to take his place? I don’t want Simon to leave.
I also read that since DioGuardi only just joined the panel, she will likely not make her Idol debut until slightly later in the season, having missed out on the majority of the open auditions, which kicked off in San Francisco July 17.
She joins the judges’ table for the first time this week with the New York auditions.
Should be interesting !
“cast of clowns”…Love it !!!!
Couldn’t thye get a Grammy WINNER?
Bad idea. Unless this means they are cutting Ryan/Simon interplay. The judges (well Simon) didn’t get enough speaking time last year. If Randy “yo,yo,hotdawgs” as much this year, Paula is Paula, and the new one talks at all, Simon will have no time to say anything.
