Live Blog Begins Here

Contestant : Michael Lynche
Voting Number : 1866-idols-01
Song Title : “Miss You”
Judges Thoughts : (R) I wasn’t crazy when the arrangement started but you slayed them. Way to start the show. (E) What’s not to love about that. That’s the way to start the night. Good, good, good. (K) You delivered attitude and swagger. You were hot on stage. (S) You have your confidence up now. I thought the performance at times was kind of corny, particularity the dancing. A tiny bit desperate.
Slim’s Score : B+

Contestant : Didi Benami
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-02
Song Title : “Play With Fire”
Judges Thoughts : (R) I think for the first time that you are on fire tonight. That was one of your best performances. (E) You have an amazing voice. You lost your way but you got right back in the song. (K) I think when you push on your vocal you lose you way. It was 2 steps in the right direction. You are moving towards who you are as an artist. (S) You are showing us who you want to be. I have been a fan and again it was solid but not brilliant.
Slim’s Score : A-

Contestant : Casey James
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-03
Song Title : “All Over Now”
Judges Thoughts : (R) I think you could make a great career like this. I loved it. You are back for me. (E) I thought it was fantastic. (K) Tonight you were a rock star. It has blues and soul and that is what I have missed from you. This was your best performance since we met. (S) I agree with Kara. You look great, you sounded great. You do have to push yourself. It has to be more than that.
Slim’s Score : C

Contestant : Lacey Brown
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-04
Song Title : “Ruby Tuesday”
Judges Thoughts : (R) Interesting arrangement. It wasn’t a wow moment but you kind of held it together. (E) When the song was building you sat down. It was a tiny bit sleepy for me but I am a fan of yours. (K) It was 50 50 for me. There were some issues where you didn’t hit the notes right. You can do better. (S) You perform like an actress. Nothing wrong with the vocals. You need to stop over thinking this.
Slim’s Score : C-

Contestant : Andrew Garcia
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-05
Song Title :“Gimme Shelter”
Judges Thoughts : (R) I love the song and I love you but it was pitchy everywhere. (E) I think it was your best performance yet. I loved it. (K) There were elements that we heard what we have been missing. I wanted to feel what you were talking about. The connection bothered me the most out of that performance. I wanted more intensity. (S) I am in the middle. You gave it 100% but my gut is you were better in rehearsals than tonight. I hope you survive another week.
Slim’s Score : C-

Contestant : Katie Stevens
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-06
Song Title : “Wild Horses”
Judges Thoughts : (R) It is a great song if you sing it well. You sang that really well. A couple of pitch issues but you corrected them. It was a strong performance. (E) Started a bit pitchy but sounded good once you got into it. (K) It is never technically perfect but it was better than last week. (S) This is the only week you have chosen a strong song. I didn’t like the second half of the arrangement since you lost the emotion. I think you connected and you gave it 100%
Slim’s Score : D+

Contestant : Tim Urban
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-07
Song Title : “Under My Thumb”
Judges Thoughts : (R) I didn’t get that. It was very bizarre. It didn’t serve your vocals well. I didn’t like it. (E) Felt like I was a resort drinking a pina colada. There was nothing wrong with it. It just didn’t wow. (K) I applaud you for doing something different with the song. You made it your own. (S) I applaud you for doing something different but it didn’t work. Rolling Stones fans were turning off their TV sets.
Slim’s Score : D+

Contestant : Siobhan Magnus
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-08
Song Title : “Paint It Black”
Judges Thoughts : (R) Bringing the drama to season 9. That was hot. (E) I loved the way you look tonight. I love the way you sound. I love the way you did that song. You stand out. (K) The best interpretation tonight. You did the most with the song. (S) The standout performance of the night. You look interesting. A lot of people will like that but a lot of people will hate that and that is the place to be.
Slim’s Score : A

Contestant : Lee DeWyze
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-09
Song Title : “Beast Of Burden”
Judges Thoughts : (R) You came home with this. You did the whole singer/songwriter things. It was dope. (E) I thought it was great and you sounded great. I was expecting a tiny bit more from you. It was a little less than I expected. (K) You are growing faster than anybody. Tremendous. (S) I really like you as a person. You picked a safe song and other people have had bigger moments. The frustrating thing is that you have such an incredible voice.
Slim’s Score : B

Contestant : Paige Miles
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-10
Song Title : “Honky Tonk Woman”
Judges Thoughts : (R) You did alright with it. You pulled it off. I liked it. (E) I love that you used the stage. You sounded great. No one would know you were struggling with your voice. (K) At times you may have gotten a little lost but you worked the stage and Paige is back. (S) You hit some big notes. It is something you would hear in a bar and you still haven’t connected. It was an old fashioned performance.
Slim’s Score : C+

Contestant : Aaron Kelly
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-11
Song Title : “Angie”
Judges Thoughts : (R) You were born to sing. I like you. I thought it was hot. (E) Are you trying to do your hair like mine? I thought that was a great song choice. Another performance that stands out. Beautiful. (K) You showed me tonight. It is very powerful. Really great. (S) I did fear for you this week but you picked 100% the right song. You sang the song within the limits of your vocal. It was one of your strongest performances.
Slim’s Score : C-

Contestant : Crystal Bowersox
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-12
Song Title : “You Don’t Always Get What You Want
Judges Thoughts : (R) I don’t think it was your best performance but I love you. You didn’t disappoint me tonight. (E) You sing with such ease. You are born to be on the stage. You were playful tonight. Play more though. (K) You are so comfortable up there. It wasn’t your greatest vocal but it was great. (S) You came out here tonight 100% the clear favorite. You picked the song that didn’t have the drama and tonight I think you were beaten by someone. When you think you have the competition in the pocket you need to dig deep.
Slim’s Score : A+

    @ sonya:
You know, i doubt anybody contestants really look on this website. I agree with you, but I don’t think she’d listen even if she did see it. I mean, look at how far screaming got Adam last year. And it’s my prediction that there will be another Adam every single year.

  2. tmq800

Kesha’s performance was way way awful, even with those dancing TVs!!! Idol just hit a new low for tackiness. I was surprised that dancing TVs would return to our screens in more than 50 years.

  3. angie

    @ Dean:

I don’t know about Katie winning it all. That may be a long shot. But, for your sake, maybe she will and then imagine how happy you would be! lol :)

I do agree that she is a pretty girl, though.

  4. sonya

    DonnNo says:

Siobhan, screeching ruined last year’s shows, so STOP IT!
    ====================
    Yes!!! Please STOP IT!

  5. rachel

I think Lacey will be leaving this week. And Tim and Katie aren’t far behind her.

  6. ABB

    @ Dean:
Well, Dean, that’s what is so interesting about this show and its fans, we all like different things for different reasons. I really like Siobhan! And I find Katie boring. But then I also find Lee boring as well, and plenty of others here just love him! It’s all good.

  7. Dean

Oh my God, Siobhan is atrocious. She screeches and emotes until you want to throw your socks at the TV. Lee is a big yawn. The only ones who really can sing are Bowersox and Katie–the latter has superb pipes. But she doesn’t look like a freak show, so a lot of folks don’t like her more conservative, mainstream style. But she is EXCELLENT and thi :cheerful: nk she may just win after tonight’s performance.

  8. camilo

    Andrew goin homee!!!

the only ones that have a chance of wining are Lee Dewayze or Siobhan!
the rest are good but dont have a chance!

  9. Donn

Siobhan, screeching ruined last year’s shows, so STOP IT! Tim, BAH-BYE!

  10. Donn

At the beginning of the season, I was really rooting for Lilly and Crystal. Lilly should NOT have left, so I’M ALL BEHIND CRYSTAL NOW!!

  11. angie

    @ tmq800:

My guess is they will sing some of those songs in a medley for the group song tomorrow night.

  12. tmq800

Very good show. Loved the Top 12 doing the Rolling Stones, but I was surprised no one chose any of their signature songs (Start Me Up, Satisfaction); It seems that all of the Top 12 stepped up tonight, but I am predicting either Lacey or Tim goes home tomorrow. Will vote for Aaron, Katie, Lee, Didi, Siobhan, Tim and Crystal.

  13. @ randomx6:
You’re right, I doubt if any of the kids understood any of the lyrics that they were singing, with the exception of Crystal. I just think that she “gets it”. These songs were written 20-30 years before most of these contestants were born. They have NO idea of what the sixties were all about and what part that the music played in that era.
Tim truly wrote his own ticket home tonight.
Paige or Andrew will probably follow next week, leaving Katie safely in the top ten and on the tour bus.

  14. randomx6

WEll that was a snooze. Crystal and Siobhan …YES!!! Mike – not bad…Paige surprising not awful…
Tim – man what an awful thing. “I made it my own” – I had no idea he worshiped Selasie and was from Jamaica…
Lacey, Andrew, Katie, Tim…did no one understand the lyrics they were singing or at least think singing well matters? At least they put most of the disasters in one segment.

Didi’s voice saved her because she sure had NO IDEA of what the words mean. The other 3 were just meh.

  15. Easy Rider

CASEY WAS PLAYIN’ A REALLY NICE RIFF IN THE OPEN G CHORD JUST LIKE KEITH RICHARDS, AND PUTTING HIS OWN SIGNATURE SOUND TO IT. I’M STARTIN’ TO FAVOR THAT BOY MORE AND MORE.

  16. Easy Rider

SIOBHAN GOT INTO THIS SHOW TO WIN IT. WHAT A TIGER! SHE PROBABLY MADE MICK JAGGER AND THE STONES WONDER IF EVEN THEY SHOULD DARE TO SING “PAINT IT BLACK” AFTER THE WAY SHE NAILED IT. :w00t:

  17. sonya

    rachelNo Gravatar says:

Surprised that Kara didn’t tell Katie that should have brought a horse with her , to show her connection to the song… :dizzy:
    ========================
    ROFLMAOPMP!

  18. sonya

    @ angie:

Woo hoo! Big ol stage! Announcer bringing out the judges!
    ===================================
ROFL! The announcer bringing out the judges is stupid and nutty! We don’t need an announcer to announce the judges!! :) We know who they are hahaha!

  19. romer

“I don’t get that vibe from her AT ALL…” Simon revealed his instinct of suspicion on that one. It’s a dog-eat-dog world. But she’s totally above that. She’s pure. Her response to him was perfect — something like “Thanks for making me the frontrunner”. She’s defintely for-real and talented. And based on just those two criteria, she’s clearly the frontrunner. Plus, we really like her in this home here.

  20. siobhan was amazing! i hope she wins! she is so amazing! vocals were crazy good!

  21. sonya

The people who I am voting for are,

    Big Mike

    CBS

    Comments:

GUITAR OVERLOAD! GUITAR OVERLOAD! ACK!!!! For the people who didn’t use a guitar THANK YOU! :) And for the people who did UGH!

Big Mike: Now THAT was entertaining!!! BRAVO! For a few seconds in the beginning it was slow but you brought it!! WOOOOOOO! And Simon? Big Mike Desperate? No he was fantastic!!

Mama Sox: She had a guitar and just stood there ACK! But I don’t want her to go. I love her and she is a great great singer! I want to give her another chance.

Casey: Yes Simon yes!!! He has to just do MORE instead of standing there with a guitar!

Simon and Ryan: ROFL! When they were talking about Big Mike Ryan walked up to Simon! ROFL!

Come on people! Give us more next week!! :) Get to know ALL the stage! Even the back where the judges are!

  22. angie

    @ rachel:

I don’t get that vibe from her AT ALL, either!! Love her! She sings so easily like it just all natural. I love it! She was fantastic!

  23. rachel

Okay, Crystal was my favorite tonight. What a voice ! Love it ! And at no time did she EVER come across with the “I think I have the competition in the pocket” attitude. If anything , she appears shy to me.
    Absolutely love her !

  24. rachel

    @ romer:
 Just my two Yorkie babies !

  25. romer

Janis Joplin without the whiskey (Southern Comfort).

  26. angie

    Crystal = FABULOUS! A definite ‘A!’

  27. romer

@rachel. Referring to your basket with the animals in it. Little Easter doggies?

  28. Tabitha

Crystal, you do no wrong!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!

  29. romer

“Am I crazy? Am I deaf?” I know what you mean, Bob. The judges seem especially nurturing tonight. They like to see improvement, and are apparently resigned to the voters having the last say anyway.

  30. angie

Aaron– What a cute kid. He’s got a nice voice, but again, he just does nothing for me. I give him a B-.

  31. rachel

I liked Aaron tonight. Just not a fan of that Kewpie Doll hair style…

  32. rachel

    @ romer:

    ??????

  33. romer

Tabitha is right — it would be a long way for him to get there.

  34. Bob

Aaron is so awful. I don’t understand the judges. I just don’t get it. I am totally confused. Am I crazy? Am I deaf?

  35. romer

@ rachel. Are those chocolate kitties?

  36. Tabitha

Aaron is cute and has a good voice, but he has a looooong way to go.

  37. rachel

Aaron loves ya, Angie !!!

  38. rachel

 Lee was my favorite of the night !

  39. angie

Paige did a really good job. So much better than last week. She just doesn’t do a whole lot for me. I don’t hate her, I just still find her pretty forgettable.

    I give her a B-.

  40. Tabitha

I really enjoyed Paige’s performance this week!

  41. romer

Lee still has plenty of upside, and he did okay. BTW, Slim’s scores are doing okay tonight too. Hope he doesn’t have any F-minuses in his holster tonight. :)

  42. jalin

@Tabitha: I was referring to Siobhan, by the way.

  43. jalin

    @ Tabitha:
I agree and I am a big fan

  44. romer

Siobhan was startling. It was like, “What is she doing?” And when she did it, you go “That was really something!” I thought it was mesmerizing artistry.

  45. Tabitha

    LETA!! I loved it!

  46. angie

    Leta Wise

    I love him! Amen.

He may not be flashy or technically perfect..but he makes me happy and that’s what this is all about.

Oh, and I give him an A.

  47. I mean Rock n roll.

  48. angie

    @ Jo:

Ha..his looks don’t cloud my judgment. I’m an old lady.

  49. Are you kidding me????? I thought the Rolling Stones was rink n roll????? This has been such a bore. No one wowed us tonight.

  50. angie

Siobhan– I love this girl so much! I liked her version of Paint It Black, though I thought it could have been better. I give her a B and I give that screeching note an L for Lambert which is equivalent to a D-. Love her, though. I do! Love her personality and voice.

  51. rachel

Not a fan of Siobhan’s last season like…um…high pitch…

  52. romer

There was a total disconnect between the sentiment/meaning of “Under My Thumb” and the sentiment of the style Tim delivered it in. There’s no emotion in Tim’s face. Wrong song for him.

  53. Jo

    @ angie:

He was awful. I have a feeling he will be in the bottom 3 tomorrow.

I also think the only reason why a lot of girls support him is because of what he looks like, they let it cloud their judgement. He is a truly average singer…it’s absurd

  54. Tabitha

*ducking the tomatoes* Unimpressed with Siobhan this week.

  55. angie

    @ Bob:
I liked Tim. I don’t have anything bad to say. I think he’s getting a bad rap for the most part.

  56. rachel

I actually liked Tim Urban, whether the judges did or not. He DOES have a very nice voice. I think he will be safe for another week.

  57. Bob

    @ angie:

Say what you will about Tim, but he certainly knows his limits and is having a good time. I like that humility.

  58. tyler.

i dont think kara means for everyone to take the meaning of their song choices literally, but there needs to be a connection between the singer and the song. i agree with her that some of the contestants just dont connect to the material theyre singing.

  59. angie

Tim– Woo hoo! I liked it! I’m glad he did well. He was much better than Katie, IMO. I actually did like what he did with the song. See, I’m not a Mick Jagger/Stones fan, so ALL these are sounding great to me! I give him a C+.

  60. Tabitha

    Tim Urban: next.

  61. angie

    @ romer:

    Eh..I don’t know. It’s probably because I don’t care for CAR-uh, much. lol

  62. angie

    @ rachel:

LOL ha ha ha ha ha ha

  63. romer

    Yeah, Katie seemed too ordinary.

  64. rachel

Surprised that Kara didn’t tell Katie that should have brought a horse with her , to show her connection to the song… :dizzy:

  65. romer

“I am over CAR-uh getting so into the meaning of the songs.” She does go overboard, angie. But in addition to singing something, and performing something, you have to SAY something too. Hence, the meaning of the song comes into play.

  66. angie

Katie– she’s a cutie, but she didn’t do so well. That was probably one of the worst versions of Wild Horses I’ve heard in a while…and EVERYONE has done Wild Horses. I just find Katie boring and forgettable. (Dean, if you’re reading this, don’t hurt me! I’m just not a fan!) I don’t hate the girl, I just don’t like her voice. I give her a C-/D+

  67. Tabitha

I heard Katie was singing Wild Horses and I thought for sure she would knock it out of the park. Eh, I don’t think so.

  68. romer

Andrew doesn’t have the voice for Gimme Shelter. So, Kara was on to something.

  69. romer

I love everything about Lacey except she isn’t a terrifically accomplished singer.

  70. rachel

I thought Andrew did a great job. I LOVE his voice !

  71. angie

I am over CAR-uh getting so into the meaning of the songs. Everything doesn’t have to be literal. You can argue all you want, but that’s how I feel.

Loved Simon’s tank come-back, too! ha ha

  72. tmq800

The banter between Kara and Simon on Andrew’s performance was funny. Hope Andrew gets booted tomorrow.

  73. Tabitha

I liked Andrew, too. And for the record, I think Kara is an idiot.

  74. angie

Andrew– Yay! A little more personality from Andrew! This makes me happy. The backup singers = awful! I enjoyed him a lot! I like him without his guitar for once, even though I don’t mind guitar playing at all. I give him a B-.

  75. romer

Casey and I are like musical blood brothers. So I’m rooting for him. Yet he doesn’t excite enough. I’m surprised Simon didn’t critique him for sounding like a thousand typical guys across the USA on a Friday and Saturday night.

  76. rachel

I like Lacey, but didn’t care for the song. Again.

  77. tmq800

Click on American Idol link at adthe.net, and the feed is on again.

  78. romer

Love Didi’s voice. She chose right song. I’m pretty sure she gagged on the last word of the song, putting a “k” consonant in the middle of the word “fire”.

  79. angie

Lacey– I liked her. Not AMAZING, but good as far as Lacey goes. She’s so cute and I just keep wanting her to get better. I give her a B-.

  80. Tabitha

Lacey: I liked it! So there!

  81. mark

Simon as normal spot on w the comments. Casey good performance but show us some personality dude. Didi messed up a bit but was okay. Big Mike was a kick to watch but we need better performances.

  82. rachel

I love Casey, but didn’t care for the song. He’s going nowhere this week. He’s here to stay for awhile, I think !

  83. rachel

I thought Didi did a great job. Well done !

  84. rachel

LOVED Big Mike ! He has the nicest personality, besides knowing how to SING !!

  85. Tabitha

    So-so on Casey for me.

  86. Cynthia

Love the live blog. Great site for us AI fans!

  87. angie

Casey– Just a’ight for me dawg. Better than the past couple of weeks, though. A little less obvious with the bleating goat vibrato, thank goodness. He’ll stick around. I give him a B-.

  88. Tabitha

Loved Didi! This is the best she’s sounded, in my opinion.

  89. angie

Oh, and I give Didi an A-, too.

  90. angie

Didi–Oh, now I liked that!! woo hoo! I saw some personality and I LOVED it! Great job!

  91. tmq800

Liked Mike. Watching Idol live feed at atdhe.net, but had to click the ABC feed to watch it.

  92. romer

Everybody likes big Mike. Quite the personality. Competent singer. I don’t get turned on by his artistry. It’s too stock.

  93. Tabitha

I liked Big Mike’s take on the song!

  94. angie

Big Mike–his baby is adorable! She is so tiny on her daddy!

Anyway, LOVED him singing “Miss You!” He uses the stage..he has such personality. I actually like his falsetto. My grade would be… A-

  95. angie

Woo hoo! Big ol stage! Announcer bringing out the judges! All 12 announced onto the stage from behind the ‘curtain.’ It’s top 12 time!!!

  96. angie

    Cue the comments!!
