Live Blog Begins Here

Contestant : Crystal Bowersox
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-01
Song Title : “Saved”
Judges Thoughts : (R) That is the way to come out. It was dope. I loved it. (E) I am tired of telling you how great you are. (K) Another solid performance. I love the up-tempo. I think you did some good things tonight. (S) You didn’t pick an obvious song. You didn’t fall into the karaoke trap. It sounded great. Congratulations.
Slim’s Score : (C) Crystal takes the lead spot tonight. Not her best performance at all. It was upbeat but just not the Crystal I have grown to love over the weeks. I am scared. Could she hit the bottom 3?

Contestant : Andrew Garcia
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-02
Song Title : “Hound Dog”
Judges Thoughts : (R) That was definitely not good karaoke. I didn’t like it. (E) I wish you had put a little more swagger into it. You needed to do something like this and I think you pulled it off. (K) It’s Elvis, you have to own it. The mic was your crutch. There were some nice places but I wanted to hear more from that performance. (S) Lazy and forgettable. It didn’t feel like a star performance.
Slim’s Score : (D) I think Andrew pretty much packed his own bags tonight. Boring, slow and flat, time to hit the tarmac.

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Andrew-Garcia-2010-04-13.mp3]

Contestant : Tim Urban
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-03
Song Title : “Can’t Help Falling In Love”
Judges Thoughts : (R) I actually liked it. (E) I really enjoyed it. I can’t help falling in love with you. That was beautiful. (K) My favorite Tim performance ever. Current and from your heart. Well done. (S) You have managed to go from zero to hero in 2 weeks. Clean arrangement, you have grown and you are taking advice.
Slim’s Score : (D) I play this song all the time when I DJ. It is a very popular request when it is time to slow things down. Could I play Tim’s version? Never in a million years. Tim may have a seat right next to Andrew on that 757 heading home. Unless of course VFTW has a record turnout tonight.

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Tim-Urban-2010-04-13.mp3]

Contestant : Lee DeWyze
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-04
Song Title : “Little Less Conversation”
Judges Thoughts : (R) Dude you are in the zone. Another great, amazing performance. (E) You made that so current. You own that stage and get better and better. (K) You really went for it and I loved it. Be a little more playful but the vocal was fire. (S) It was on the money.
Slim’s Score : (A) Wow. Lee is amazing. No matter what song he tackles it is something I like and could play somewhere. Another score and another step closer to the finale.

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Lee-Dewyze-2010-04-13.mp3]

Contestant : Aaron Kelly
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-05
Song Title : “Blue Suede Shoes”
Judges Thoughts : (R) It started weird. (E) That was a big song to take on. A for effort. You didn’t get all the way there but good job. (K) You are out of your comfort zone and I like it. The song felt more current and young and I liked it. (S) It didn’t make you younger. It was what it was. Someone at a high school doing a concert. You didn’t make it young and it was very Karaoke.
Slim’s Score : (C) Fun and upbeat beat but sounded flat. Aaron shouldn’t worry. He has the tween vote.

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Aaron-Kelly-2010-04-13.mp3]

Contestant : Siobhan Magnus
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-06
Song Title : “Suspicious Minds”
Judges Thoughts : (R) You took some risks tonight. The slower part is where you came alive and we heard the big vocals. (E) You look great. I liked the second half better than the first. You really have a beautiful voice. (K) Siobhan has 2 voices and it is getting confusing for me. I wasn’t crazy about it. (S) You were put into a time machine and came back to 20 years ago. The first part of the song was terrible. Some of the big notes you didn’t hit. You lost who you were 2 or 3 weeks ago. Not one of your best performances.
Slim’s Score : (B+) Man I can’t believe we picked Siobhan as the VFTC pick this week. She looks awful but sounded great. Another hot performance and another week of safety.

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Siobhan-Magnus-2010-04-13.mp3]

Contestant : Michael Lynche
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-07
Song Title : “In The Ghetto”
Judges Thoughts : (R) The song was a little sleepy but those were hot vocals. (E) I am glad we saved you. (K) Beautiful song and you sang it well. (S) A million times better than last week and one of my favorites by you.
Slim’s Score : (C) Much better than last week but I think the damage may already be done. It is such a toss up who will go home but Michael will most likely at least hit the bottom 3.

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Michael-Lynche-2010-04-13.mp3]

Contestant : Katie Stevens
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-08
Song Title : “Baby What Do You Want Me To Do”
Judges Thoughts : (R) Nice vocals. Very nice. I was entertained. (E) It is a very horny song. You can sing, it was great. (K) You just showed us girl. (S) Loud and annoying. I just didn’t like the song.
Slim’s Score : (B-) Still nothing overly exciting but a performance that should keep Katie another week.

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Katie-Stevens-2010-04-13.mp3]

Contestant : Casey James
Voting Number : 1-866-idols-09
Song Title : “Lawdy Miss Clawdy”
Judges Thoughts : (R) You were in the zone. Another solid performance. (E) I love your voice. You look great. It wasn’t as exciting as I would have like to have seen. (K) That feel short. (S) A wasted opportunity.
Slim’s Score : (D) Hated it but Casey isn’t heading anywhere except to the Top 7

[audio=http://idolbloglive.com/mp3/Casey-James-2010-04-13.mp3]

    @ Easy Rider:
Also – and more seriously…the Beatles wrote exquisite songs. Elvis mostly covered other people’s songs and made them MUCH better than they actually are. Our little Idolettes just exposed some of the songs for the meh they are minus hips and voice.

    @ angie: says

I’m glad the idols didn’t listen much to what the mentor said. Most of it wasn’t the best advice. (Trying to convince Tim to use that high falsetto? No.)
    ===================================
No Tim should have done the falsetto! It sounded really good! But then Tim sang and was Zzzzzzzz. I think Adam did a great job mentoring and I didn’t think he would. :)

  3. @ randomx6:
Yeah Random, I’m sure that was part of it. True! :cheerful:

  4. randomx6

    @ Easy Rider:
Uh because most of them are boring…and wouldn’t know Rock n’ Roll if it bit them on the …

  5. randomx6

    @ Annie:
telling the truth about a god awful performance isn’t throwing someone under the bus…it is telling the truth. (as they see it)

  6. angie

    Dear AI hair stylists,

Stop ruining Leta Wise’s hair. The back of his head should not look like that.

    Dear Ryan,

While others accused you of being drunk (whatever), I would like you to continue acting somewhat goofy. It makes the show way more fun! However, please stop the post judge interview with each singer.

    Dear judges (except Ellen),

Way to toss Andrew firmly under the bus wheels. The judging was overly harsh and obvious for a performance that was not even nearly as bad as you made it out to be.

    Dr Matthew Morrison,

Please sit behind the judges every week!

    Love, Ang

  7. angie

I’m glad the idols didn’t listen much to what the mentor said. Most of it wasn’t the best advice. (Trying to convince Tim to use that high falsetto? No.) Some of it was ok advice, but really, that’s how all the mentors are. In the end, I don’t think the mentors have much influence at all. They just make for good sound bytes to fill up the show.

  8. If Adam was a good mentor, why was “ELVIS WEEK” which in the past been tremendous, such a poor and boring show with no really great stand outs except Crystal who stands out all the time anyway?

  9. camilo

ANDREW GARCIA AND MICHAEL LYNCHE ARE GOING HOME!!
AARON KELLY IN THE BOTTOM 3 AGAIN! ANY OF THESE 3 I COULD CARE LESS!

tim urban has a great chance of making it to the top 5!

  10. tmq800

Good Elvis show. I don’t know who’s going home tomorrow.

  11. sonya

    Bruce says

Who was the chick sitting next to Adam? She kept getting into the view.@
    =========================================
You mean the lady with dark hair? Wasn’t that his mother? :)

  12. Bruce

Show just ended here (btw I missed last week due to travel). My top 3: Crystal, Katie and Siobhan. I only have a bottom 2: Andrew and Tim. Lots of OK stuff tonight. Who was the chick sitting next to Adam? She kept getting into the view.

  13. i think Adam did a fairly decent job as mentor. sorry angie, don’t hate me

  14. randomx6

Ok…we know that Adam is flamboyent and schreeches and is in your face but from aaron to mike to Cyrstal to Tim to etc… if not the best mentor close to the best mentor I have ever seen on this show. Interestingly (to me) he and Miley have been 2 of the better mentors ever so i think performance advicce tops singing advice every day.

  15. idol time

Adam did OK as a mentor, IMO. I wonder if we’ll see other idol-ers from the past as future mentors.

  16. Tim was better then ever and probably saved himself from the cursed double whammy tomorrow. He has found a style that may take him somewhere when the tour is over. He was really good tonite!

  17. randomx6

    @ rachel:
Not unexpected…only she didn’t take Adam’s advice and that is why the 2nd most talented (if completely untrained) singer in the competition is in serious danger tonight. They will regret saving the cheeseman if she goes home tomorrow.

  18. idol time

safest singers, in my opinion, in no particular order:
Crystal – not my favorite song, but, she is safe, I believe.
Lee – good voice, good arrangement, starting to mix with the crowd

middle of the pack singers, IMO, in no particular order:
Casey – picked a bad song. Just a few weeks left.. watch out.
Katie – OK – did not wow me — but, much better than Andrew group
Michael – a little too slow, tonight, bring some action next week.
Siobhan – needs better songs, or arrangements, soon, or else…

my guess at the bottom 3, tomorrow:
(Tim may be in the middle group, Michael may be down here.)
Tim — moving up in the judges eyes, and support from VFTW
Aaron — good, not great, needs some pizzazz, or something…
Andrew — not good enough – America will not support him with votes. This really needs to be the end of his run… who will join him>?

  19. Sue

I think Andrew will/should go. I wouldn’t be upset if Aaron, Tim or Katie went (although Katie had the best vocal of this group). I think Michael has a beautiful (if not original) voice. Crystal, Lee, Siobhan and Casey should make the top four.

  20. E

Andrew was the worst by far.
Two factors: Lighting on Tim was horrendous.
In Mike’s performance, the piano came in much too loud.

    My ranking:
    1) Katie
    2) Crystal
    3) Lee
    4) Aaron
    5) Tim
    6) Mike
    7) Sioban
    8) Casey
    9) Andrew

  21. sonya

The people who I am voting for are,

    CBS

    Lee

    Katie

    Comments:

Guitars: BAH MORE GUITAR OVERLOAD! *Chucks the damn guitars out the window then closes and locks the window*

Brian Dunkleman: Ryan was talking about Brian being back. For idol gives back? Right? Damn Ryan was joking! ROFL! To bad.

Ryan’s mama: Awww! He looks like her.

Lamby: My first thought when I saw him tonight was, he really wants to sell his album? But as time went on he actually gave good advice. :) I changed my mind about him being a mentor. :)

Big Mike: Zzzzzzzzzzzz. Forget Simon! Be theatrical!!! :) Lamby was when he was on AI. :)

Mama Sox: WOOOOOOOOOOO! I am still so torn! I love love love her voice but I still wish she would move!!!!

    Lee: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :)

Katie: Damn! A little attitude in her singing. ROFL! She was great!!!

Andrew: Yikes! That was bad. And what was with him and Aaron walking while they were singing? Don’t walk off the stage! Dance off the stage!!! :)

Tim Urban: Meh! But wait is Ryan dancing?! ROFL! He is!!! Hahahahaha! And there Tim goes smiling again! :) Love it!

Siobhan: First half zzzzzzzz second half very good. Lamby you did a good job with her. :)

  22. Tim, Mike, and the FIRST part of Siobhan’s song connected with me on an emotional level. The rest are very skilled but I felt more like I was admiring architecture and not fine artwork. I think Andrew and Aaron will go home. The best performance of the night: Adam Lambert — and he didn’t even sing. Go figure.

BTW — I love this blog. Great comments and editorial. :)

  23. rachel

I liked Katie. Safe for another week at least.

  24. rachel

Didn’t care for Casey tonight either. But I think he will be safe for awhile.

  25. Susan

Not my favorite Casey performance but I love this guy! He could have kicked butt… Simon is right. (Imagine Casey with a more high energy song like the one Crystal sang!) Still, nothing will cause me to waiver from my second place choice… unless Crystal really tanks and then I’ll back Casey.

  26. angie

Casey– I would really like him..except for that goaty bleat. I can’t take it.

    I i i i i i i i i i i i i i’m gonna tell my mama…

    I give him a B-/C+.

  27. Susan

    @ DJSlim:
I think Tim could do Blue’s Clues.

  28. angie

Katie–Not a fan of the song. She wagged her neck and head around too much. Not a Katie fan, but she did OK.

    I give her a C+.

  29. Sue

    @ DJSlim:
I teach 10 year olds and they love him! Very wholesome looking!

  30. rachel

I loved Mike tonight. Considering his vocals only this week, he does not deserve to go home this week.

  31. @ Sue:

never thought of tim heading to Disney. may be a perfect fit for him. I can see him on Imagination Movers :)

  32. Leila

I don’t get why Simon is calling Siobhan old-fashioned this week. She picked a gospel style very similar to what Crystal has done a few times before and Simon thought it was current. I call BS! Siobhan was incredible.

  33. angie

    @ rachel:

    The eyes and grin…exactly!!

  34. angie

Mike– Gorgeous rendition of In The Ghetto. I wish he had chosen an upbeat song, but other than that, loved it.

    I give him an A.

  35. Sue

Tim was sweet. How fast do you think he’ll be picked up by Disney?!

  36. Sirnaut

    Go TIM GO :cheerful:

  37. angie

Siobhan– I can’t stand her super slow vibrato. The entire song was too slow for me. Then she started “that crazy screaming thing” as CAR-uh said. I’ve pretty much lost any Siobhan love I had.

    I give her a C.

  38. rachel

Siobhan might have been better off not taking Adam’s advice. My opinion only.

  39. Susan

For the first time ever I sort of agree with Kara and Simon. I love Siobhan – but not this week.

  40. Sue

Loving Adam as a mentor – very straight with them.

  41. ABB

Tsk, tsk, if Aaron really wanted to score points with the judges AND look “current”, he should have WORN some 50s blue suede shoes.

  42. Susan

Adam is a great mentor! I happened to think Crystal was very good. Lee was excellent! Tim okay. Aaron – meh. Andrew, sorry, but I really didn’t like it at all.

  43. rachel

Didn’t really care for Aaron tonight. In my opinion so far, both Tim and Aaron might be in the bottom two.

  44. angie

Aaron–Just weird. I’m just not a fan of Aaron. Not that I hate his singing. He just doesn’t do anything for me.

    I give him a B-.

  45. rachel

    Lee
Absolutely AWESOME !! Loved his cute little grin that he gave as he sang. And those eyes !
See you in the finale, Lee !!

  46. angie

    @ Annie:

    Extremely obvious!! I hate it!

  47. angie

Leta Wise– LOVE! I love the grit in his voice! I love him with his guitar. I missed it..I wonder if he put his pick in his mouth this week..will have to watch it back. Keep smiling, Lee!

    I give him an A.

  48. Annie

    @ angie:
They sure did toss Andrew under the bus – and they were really obvious about it. I hope everybody votes for Andrew just to show that the judges don’t control who goes or stays.

  49. rachel

Did not care for Tim tonight at all. Bottom two.

  50. angie

Tim– TURBAN! I wish I would have thought of that!

Adam gave him bad advice…SOOOO glad he didn’t follow it!! I liked it, yet I didn’t. I liked the few parts where he actually sang, but for the most part, he just spoke each word.

The judges tossed Andrew under the bus, so Tim will stay. Whatever.

    I give him a B-/C.

  51. Andrew and Tim should go home both was bad

  52. rachel

Wasn’t Andrew’s best performance. But I still liked it.

  53. angie

Andrew–I like the Andrew twist on Hound Dog! Nope, don’t care what the Loathbert says. I like how he moved around the stage, however, I am never a big fan of carrying the mic stand around. lol (Constantine, Bo…I’m looking at YOU!!)

    I give Andrew a B+.

  54. rachel

I love Crystal no matter what she sings. She’s going nowhere but to the season finale !!!

  55. rachel

    @ DJSlim:
Yay ! Thank you, Slim !

  56. ABB

Not my favorite of Crystal’s either, Slim. If she had control over her performance, she should have told those backup singers to tone it down.

  57. angie

Crystal–The most fun I’ve ever seen Crystal have! Loved it! Great song for her.

I give her an A…as usual.

  58. @ angie:

I am going to run a post each week for Glee :)

  59. angie

    @ DJSlim:

    You know it!

  60. angie

Ha ha..CAR-uh almost knocked Sime over as they walked onstage!
And Ryan high fiving the swaybots saying, “What’s up? What’s up?” too funny…

  61. @ angie:

you better cue the Glee comments when that post comes up at 9:28 :)

  62. angie

    Cue the comments!

    (GLEE!!!!)
