Update : Duet is canceled. Idol couldn’t get the rights to Marvin Gaye music
Last season we were entertained with a Celine Dion and Elvis duet on Idol Gives Back and this season American Idol will continue with its dead duet. Who will be the headlining act? Mariah Carey and Marvin Gaye will perform “What’s Going On” during the Idol Gives Back special on April 9th.
Any thoughts on Idol continuing with its Dead Duet? Leave a comment.

So long as we don’t have to listen to a Dolly duet of Islands in the Stream! Rest in Peace, Baby!
I find it all so interesting on how they do that and the fact that you can’t see the seams. Pretty cool night of intertainment for free :em02:
I probably won’t watch at all.
I’m not a big charity TV watcher. :em31:
I don’t care for the dead duets!!! Mariah I don’t like at all; Celine was a little more tolerable but just barely. Marvin and Elvis were good perfomers. That’s all Idol can come up with; dead duets on Idol Gives Back!!! Puhhhleeese!!!
I’ve never liked these “dead duets”. Ever since Natalie Cole did “Unforgettable” with her father, it’s just kind of creeped me out. Sounds great, but I don’t care to see it.
It was fun to watch the Celine/Elvis thing and marvel over how well they hid the editing seams. Elvis IS larger than life, even now, (no weight joke intended) and Celine Dion ACTS like she’s larger than life, and I thought the end result was hilarious!
Can’t wait to see how it works out with two not-larger-than-lifers…. will it be even cheesier?
:em02:
It will be the cheesiest. Kraft cheese and macaroni anyone?
I can’t stand Mariah or Celine. I wasn’t much of an Elvis fan either. Marvin on the other hand was a favorite of mine. He was one of those artists whose music really connected for me. I could hardly wait for his next new release and was truly saddened when he died.

I can’t stand Mariah so I pretty much don’t care. :em23:
While I can’t stand Celine or Whitney I have always been a Mariah Carrie fan. Every duet she has ever recorded has been a huge hit, I don’t see why this wouldn’t. However I wish they would let dead people alone. What if Marvin didn’t want to sing with Mariah. Nah, I think singing with Mariah would make his day.

Thanks again Slim
I actually think it might be cool. I’m not a Mariah Carey fan whatsoever, but I think this might be nice. I enjoyed the Celine/ Elvis duet last year. So this one will be interesting.

Nope not kidding. This is true
:em46: That was pretty cool, last season with Celene and Elvis. I wouldn’t mind seeing a duet like that again. After all it is a rare chance that we get to see Elvis and Marvin in concert again :em20:
