I will definitely give him a try. You have to realize the way he is on his show (yes, I hate it too) is a bit. He's portraying a character. Not to defend him, but from what I hear, he's a nice guy off air. So for me it would depend on what persona he takes on when he's judging AI. I can't say I won't watch if I don't give him a try.

@ Easy Rider:
I should not even have posted this thread because I have not watched an episode yet this season and doubt very seriously I'll ever watch the show again. So what am I doing here? I still enjoy this web site.

I just read the article that Rachel posted in her comment. It has seemed for a very long time now that the show is doing all they can to move away from long time moral values [by TV standards].
Of course the bar of those standards is becoming lower every year.
I just don't know what the big wigs are thinking,[as if I ever have].
Starshine's point is well taken about HS bringing his own viewers with him. The same can be said in their reasoning for hiring Ellen D.
But what in the HELL do either of them know about music. And how will that be fair to the young competing artists?
Music is what drew all or most of us, and its what made the show so popular.
I do not like to think about the direction of show I once enjoyed so much is going.

For awhile, it might even draw more viewers out of curiosity. How far it goes from there is anybody's guess. I would still watch the show, even though I do not care for Howard Stern.
According to today's Boston Herald newspaper,"Idol will do what it takes to sign him."

Until my Sirius radio was stolen from my car I listened to Stern daily. And if I missed a part, they replayed it in the afternoon. I never really liked him before that. He is gives a great interview and if you haven't seen the movie Private Parts, you should. It might give you a glimpse of the guy behind the profanity and rudeness.

Idol is getting stale. Except for Pants on the Ground I could have done without the auditions this year. I know the old adage don't fix what's not broken, but it's getting old and anything new would be welcome.
