She’s got a pretty voice, but she seems nervous. Think it was pre-recorded? Bet it was.

  2. @ angie:
    what?what? the torch didn’t light?

  3. angie

Olympic malfunction!! Awww…I feel bad for them!

  4. I wish they had told us that the actual ceremony doesn’t start till 9:00. I’ve spent an hour and a half switching back and forth between this and the Orange County Housewives.

  5. @ angie:
I love her voice, but yes, she’s very off-putting in the appearance category.

  6. angie

k.d. lange in an ill-fitting suit, looking more like a man than ever before.(that is just an observation, not a slam.)

I do like her rendition of “Hallelujah.”

  7. angie

    @ ABB:
And he should have stayed off the ‘roids! Boy is scary now with the eyebrows/muscles combo!!

  8. angie

I understood some of those French words! My high school french teacher would be so proud! lol

  9. ABB

    @ angie:
Sooo, agree. Carrot Top should have left his eyebrows alone 20 years ago.

  10. @ angie:
I know, right? (sorry, you have me stuck on that now!) Carrot Top’s eyebrows are scary.

  11. Easy Rider

Quite the extravaganza for a winter game opening. They seem to get more and more elaborate each time. It’s all very impressive. I hope the US and Canada both do well in the games. But it’s bed time for me. :cheerful:

  12. angie

    @ Joyce:

At least he is cuter than Carrot Top!

  13. @ ABB:
Oh, I love it for a girl. It’s beautiful, red, curly, luscious. But I’m not a long-hair-on-guys type of gal.

  14. ABB

    @ Joyce:
I love his hair! It would look beautiful on any girl! Actually Steven’s current girlfriend has gorgeous straight red hair exactly that color.

  15. So when does the show start? They made us tune in at 7:30!!

  16. Why are they interviewing Carrot Top? Oh wait, it’s Shaun White. Cut your hair, dude.

  17. angie

Very cool! I’m loving the big mountain and the skiers..

  18. angie

    @ Joyce:

You are such a brat! BRAT, I say!!

  19. Of course… it couldn’t have been the soprano operatic voice I used!!

  20. @ angie:
    I know, right?

  21. angie

    @ Joyce:

He laughed at you?!??! Shame on him!! You with your angelic voice!!

  22. angie

    @ Joyce:

    That would have been cool!

  23. Tom Brokaw – take the marbles out cha mouth.

  24. angie

    Love the fiddling!

The leaves falling and the leaves on the floor..very cool!

  25. Wish we could’ve bought tickets for at least one event. Vancouver is only 5 hrs from here. Bet they’re really expensive.

  26. lol… we’re in separate rooms and I just went to the kitchen to get a drink and belted out “we are the world”. Do you know what he had the audacity to do? Laugh at me. Can you believe that???

  27. angie

Sarah McLachlan is an obvious lip syncher..meaning, she OVER lip synchs. Know what I mean?

  28. angie

Oh so cool! The ice breaking up on the floor! These projected images are awesome!

  29. Just starting here. They’re showing that poor luge guy. What a crash.

  30. angie

    I love this winter/snowy/starry theme…so pretty!

  31. angie

    @ Joyce:

Ha ha…sorry..I just couldn’t resist when I saw Switzerland come in.

  32. Nevermind. I saw FB. lol

  33. angie

It’s the Olympics version of the magic rainbow/climb mountains song! Sung by Nelly Furtado and Brian Adams!

  34. the parade of nations in China was so much better.

  35. so Hawaii gets my bid for the next summer olympics so the parade of nations can be in bikinis and lei’s

  36. angie

    @ DJSlim:

You are such a pig!! Oink oink! But I love ya!

  37. @ angie:

when does that show start :ninja:

  38. angie

LOOK! Joyce just entered the stadium! hee hee

  39. angie

    @ DJSlim:

You would be! the only way they could keep your attention is if a bunch of too-skinny blonde girls in bikinis paraded around the stadium!

  40. bored already. probably won’t make it through the whole thing tonight

  41. angie

I like that they are having the parade of athletes early in the show!

  42. angie

    @ ABB:

I was thinking the same thing! He’s a doll.

  43. ABB

How can Apolo Ohno look even younger than he did 4 years ago!

  44. ABB

Kinda funny to see Arnold Schwarzenegger huffing and puffing as he carried the torch.

  45. rachel

    @ Dr. Electro:

    USA

  46. angie

Oh I LOVE the winter games! And the opening ceremonies is always awesome.

  47. I just love to watch the figure skating, it is so beautiful

  48. Dr. Electro

I always wind up watching the skating and bitching at the TV about the judges marks. I also curse the Russian judge just on principle.

Speed skating is a hoot to watch too. Expecially the short-track version. I’m amazed at how fast some of those people are moving on ice.

I also pull for the American sledding teams. Futility at its maddest!

    USA! USA! USA! :w00t:

    @ DJSlim:
China’s was incredible, they say it was so good the English have no chance of competing so we’ll be having a concert instead.
I was going to fly home to see it but after that I’m not sure

  50. So excited. I love the opening ceremonies and watching the parade of countries. Love the skating most of all. Usually end up seeing some skiing, luge & bobsled, and the ski jump off that big ramp. That always amazes me how far they go. It’s always sad to see the Olympics end. I love how everyone is happy and gets along together. Love all the backstories too.

  51. @ joeyinc:

I am in to the opening ceremonies too. The parade of nations is fun to if they don’t break away to a ton of commercials.

  52. joeyinc

For me the best part of the Olympics IS the opening ceremony, I don’t care much for any particular sport, I watch whenever I’m bored.

  53. @ Easy Rider:

I am not a huge follower either of the winter olympics. i like the summer ones so much more.

I do like to watch the curling even though I don’t understand it much and anything of the trick like skiing/boarding events and hockey. The wife likes the figure skating.

I am sure being home with the baby I will find myself watching a lot more of the olympics than normally. most likely the tv will be tuned to one of the stations running coverage from wake up till prime time. how much of the time i will be actually be paying attention is the real question.

  54. Easy Rider

I’m not a close follower of the winter games but I will try to watch the traditional favorite events. So glad you are keeping up with the medal count Slim.
