Song Selections – Top 8

Published on Apr 7, 2008 by in Season 7

With Idol Gives Back during the Top 8 the theme has been released and it is inspirational songs to fit hand in hand with the charity event.

So take a second and leave your song choices in a comment for each contestant. Unfortunately I don’t have anywhere to send you this week for some hints but I am sure you can use google to find some ideas.

Note : Originally I thought it was Mariah Carey week next week. I had forgotten about Idol Gives Back. Mariah week will be the following week.

I would love to see Jason do “Let it Be”. I think it would be awesome! I love your voice, you are soooo unique! I hope you go far. I will definitely buy your CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Antonio

they are not singing inspirational songs….they are singing songs that inspire them…which really could be any song. …the best bet to guess what they would sing is to look up each contestants fav musicians…they will most likely sing one of their songs

4. Rick

I’m wondering why no one has ever mentioned such a nice song as “Tomorrow” (yeah, the one from Annie)… it’s such a nice song, and it would make a great hit (and a big career) just the way Kat McPhee did with “Over the Rainbow”… Of course, that’s in case whoever sings it nails it the same way… I would HATE to see Jason take on it… :em38: His sole presence on the show makes me want to stop watching! :em25: I really hope he gets the booth next.

David A has yet to sing a song i would have thought of (other than Imagine), so i don’t expect this week to be any different!

Also, assuming next week is actually MC songs, could that affect what they sing? i don’t see him singing a MC fast song, so could that prompt him to go upbeat this week?
i really hope David A doesn’t sing a Josh Groban song. I just don’t feel like that’s the kind of singer he is, i think he’s much more mainstream. He seems to like more soulful songs, but maybe i’m just wishful thinking. don’t get me wrong, i think Josh Groban is a great singer, but i put him in more of a Broadway/opera category.
I think David A. could sing a Michael Buble song well too. (Besides Josh Groban).
It will be interesting to see which songs they all chose. Some weeks (most) I say, “Why did they ever pick THAT?????”

8.
David C .. Doesnt have to.. he NEEDS to Sing Hanging by A Moment By Lifehouse. His Voice is Pretty Close To A exact Repleca Of The Lead Vocal Of Lifehouse. If He Does it He WIll TEAR THE HOUSE DOWN.
Oh wow! That is a PERFECT song for David Cook!

That’s exactly the way I feel about David A. singing a Josh Groban song. :em78:

For Michael Johns:

Im sure he could pull off You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban.

What about Angel by Robbie Williams?
Go The Distance by Michael Bolton?

I got this off of the TMZ site. Kinda funny !

“Idol” Wannabes Gag Us with Inspiration
Posted Apr 5th 2008 1:15PM by TMZ Staff

“Classic songs have been butchered every week on “American Idol” — and next week they are taking stabs at the ones that inspire them. Jesus take the wheel!

Until TMZ moles obtain the song list — and we will — we’ve created a song list the wannabes should consider for themselves.

David Archuleta: “Papa Don’t Preach” by Madonna
Kristy Lee Cook: “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt
Michael Johns: “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” by Rolf Harris
Brooke White: “Crybaby” by Mariah Carey
David Cook: “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion
Jason Castro: “I Am Not My Hair” by India.Arie
Carly Smithson: “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” by Frank Sinatra
Syesha Mercado: “Don’t Forget About Us” by Mariah Carey”

Or maybe the Barney song “I love you, you love me…” :em62:
Jason, maybe?
Nope. David Cook.

Someone has to sing “It’s a Small World After All.”

23. I really love the Idol gives back thing. It is nice to see celebrities help out everyone like that.

24. melly

Choices for Archie:

The Greatest Love of All
I believe I can fly
You Raise Me Up

And another choice for, I dunno…Johns?
Or a rock version by Dave C.

What a Wonderful World

25. EJ

I would love to hear David Archuleta sing The Impossible Dream.
I think it would be awesome!

26. Mili

David A. singing “You Raise Me Up” would be perfect! “I’m Already There” by Lonestar would also be really good. And “Angels”, too. :em34:

Does anybody think Kristy will sing “Amazing Grace” again? CAN she sing that again? That’s about the only song she did really well…

Potential:
Syesha: Wind Beneath My Wings
Michael: rachel, I agree with you that the song selection for Michael should be “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”. He would keep himself in the running if he nails it. Or maybe “You Look Wonderful Tonight”
Jason: if he can actually PLAY “Tears in Heaven” on his guitar AND sing it well, he’ll be in the running for sure, that is an awesome song
Carly: agree that Wind Beneath My Wings or My Immortal would be a perfect choice for Carly. This girl’s got killer vocals.
David C – “Amazed” by Lonestar or “What a Wonderful World” It’s a bit softer than what he usually does, but he can still give it that rocker edge? I don’t know, but I’m sure he’ll choose something very suitable to his voice and style.
Maybe David can do “Iris”.

I don’t know about everybody else, but I hope they all do well. I’m actually really excited about next week.
And I also think IGB is a great thing for the show to do :em78:

27. “…we are the children….we are the ones who make a brighter day, so let’s start givin…”

Everybody sway your arms…

28. Mac

If someone picks a song like “We Are The World” I will barf…

29.
David Archuleta – One (U2)
David Cook – Hanging By A Moment (Lifehouse)
Michael Johns – Iris (Goo Goo Dolls)
Brooke White – Fast Car (Tracy Chapman)
Krisy Lee Cook – Travlein’ Soldier (Dixie Chicks)
Carly Smithson – My Immortal (Evanescence)
Jason Castro – No Woman No Cry (Bob Marley)
Syesha Mercado – I’m Your Angel (Celine Dion & R.Kelly)
I would melt into a puddle if Michael did Iris!! :em36:

Idol Gives Back, I give up, and we all go home.

32. DrillerAA

Could we kill three birds with one stone and just make Mariah night “Glory Note Diva Night?” That way we could include Whitney and Celene.

“I hear a train a comin’. :em77:

34. TLR

couldn’t agree more Angie

35. rachel

“The Prayer” by Celine Dion for Carly Smithson.
“Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel for Michael Johns.
“God Bless The Child” by Shania Twain for Brooke
“I Have A Dream” by Abba for Kristy.
“I Believe” for Syesha
“You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban for David A.
“Don’t Give Up’ by Josh Groban for Jason Castro
“Change the World” by Eric Clapton for David Cook

36. I think in theory, Idol Gives Back is a great thing. I hope the money goes where it is truly needed. The IGB episode does not offend me in any way. I don’t see how trying to do some good with a show that is made fun of all over the place could really be a bad thing. Give them a tiny bit of credibility, maybe. Maybe not.

I really enjoyed the show last year and hope it is just as good this year.

I would LOVE to hear some inspirational songs from any of the Idols who are left. David A would really kick butt on “Waiting for the World to Change.” I agree with amber. All the other suggestions for songs are really great. I hope they all make good choices.

I kind of look forward to 3 nights of Idol.

David Cook – What’s So Funny ‘Bout Peace Love and Understanding – That is an inspirational song/performance I can see paying to download.

38. just me

I believe I can fly – David Archuletta
I made it through the Rain – Syesha
One Sweet Day (BoyzIImen/Mariah) – Carly Smithson
Man in the Mirror – David Cook
I Hope You Dance – Kristy Lee Cook
Tears in Heaven – Jason Castro
You Raise Me Up – Michael Johns
Let the River Run – Brooke White

39. rachel

“You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban would be perfect for David A.
David A’s voice is very similiar to Josh’s. I get goose bumps just thinking of David singing this song. Perfect.

40. randomx6

Let’s see:

Give Peace a Chance
We are the World
All You Need IS Love
There’s A Place For Us
Down By The Riverside
Ain’t Gonna Study War No More
Silly Love Songs
Teach Your Children
Old Man
What The World Needs Now
Wind Beneath My Wings
Blowing In The Wind

etc.

41. amber

I could see David A singing “Waiting on the World to Change”. He did in his first audition, plus it’s upbeat, which is nice. I’m sure this will be a great week for him since this is his favorite kind of song.

hopefully it won’t be all repeats of last year’s songs.
