1. Dammit. I thought they’d let Syesha go last…instead they choose no range Jason. please make her memorable

2. Linds

LOVE the song choices for Brooke & David Arch.

WTF on Jason Castro and David Cook. They better be music magicians tonight because I don’t see them bringing it on these songs.

Good luck to all!

3. rachel

I actually listened to these song choices on You tube and I feel each of the contestants will do well with them.

GOD, WHAT A BORING SELECTION! I think Mariah Carey has much better songs, but everyone decided to be plain boring, huh? The only one who might be doing something interesting is David C. –and still, I wouldn’t hold my breath–.

Syesha is deffinitely EAGER to go home… In the one week where she could be the strongest one, she chose the worst song possible… Well, no: Brooke did. I hate to say it, ’cause Brooke was one of my favorites, but she just chose the one song nobody wanted to hear tonight, and I would bet she won’t do anything interesting with it.

This show is going to be SO boring I don’t even want to waste my time watching it… too bad I’m such a fan!

5. divad

Hummm boring song choice ==> boring show :em42:

6. i don’t really like syesha’s song choice… but hey if she goes last and does good– no problem

7. Antonio

Kristy chose well

bottom 3…syesha, jason, brook…maybe david cook instead of jason……either way..brook is going home

I read somewhere that next week will be an Andrew Lloyd Webber week and the week after that will be Neil Diamond. Not sure if it is true.
I wish they would just let them sing whatever songs they would like to sing at least one week.
Won’t be long and each contestant will be singing two songs each week.
One thing that saddens me about some of these theme weeks is that it becomes more and more evident that American Idol is becoming a mere tool of the music industry. I know producers are all about making money, and I know that they obviously are going to take advantage of the HUGE ratings they have(even though they’ve been better).
But come on… Themes like Mariah Carey week(and even Dolly Parton week for that matter) just makes me feel like I’m forced to watch a LOT of cheap publicity to boost album sales of non idol realted artists(like the ones mentioned above). And nobody seems to care if during that process the competition starts getting a bit uneven and unfair(since those themes are not as neutral as say Motown week, or 50′s week) or even if the own show’s quality starts to crumble(Through very limited in both quantity and different types of song available).
Anyway… All I know is that I’m a bit bitter with this season… I started to watch this show in Season 2, and starting from there it became a progressive “obsession”, while I got more and more involved with it. It came down to a point where I started downloading ALL episodes(except results) so I could see them as quickly as possible(since I live in Brazil it takes a week for the show to be bradcasted here) because I couldn’t simply WAIT that long…
Of course my whole dowload routine still persists, and my week pretty much revolves around Idol’s agenda… But I’m not as thrilled as I used to be… Last season I guess there were little signs of that, but at least Melinda Doolittle SAVED that season for me…
But this season… I don’t know… I really liked the facts the some contestants are kinda of breaking the mold for idol contestants(aka Jason and Brooke), but still that doesn’t still seem enough… Some contestants seem like charicatures of previous idol finalists(I’m not naming names, otherwise I’ll be stoned to death, I know lol). That and the fact that I get the strong feeling my favourite show is selling out… I guess I can’t help but feel sort of bitter… Anyway…. Anyone feeling(even remotely) like that?

PS: Sorry for the loooooong post… I needed to vent! :em44:
Authorities were stunned tonight when Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, the rest of the American Idol cast, crew and home audience were drowned under a mountain of squeeky cheese! :em51: :em55:

13. MRK

Based on the song choices I predict Castro, Archuleta and perhaps Kristy Lee to be the best tonight … :em40:

Gonna be interesting to hear David Cook’s interpretation of that song, though … maybe he’ll do the Beenie Man interpretation … lol

14.
Wow! Slim, this has become the “I hate David A” thread, what do you think? I smell some deliberate hatin’ plants by some other contestants fans.

Just a few questions to consider, friends and I’m really not singling anyone out. I’ve just heard all these arguments so many times:

Why is David A considered boring when he mostly sings the type of songs he shines on, but no one else is? They all do the same thing, week after week, but he is the only one who gets criticized for it.

Last time I checked, Shop Around, You’re the Voice and WCWIO, were pretty upbeat. (yeah, he forgot the words on that one, don’t need to remind me)
So 3 songs out of 7 were uptempo? That’s not too bad of odds is it?

When was the last time you heard any of those songs in church? Which of his songs exactly have you heard in church? I never have. Not that I don’t think it would be great to hear Smokey Mountain Memories or some good Beatles- it would be a lot less boring and a lot more heavenly.

What is your definition of “blowing everyone away?” Because he leads in the vote count every week, so I’m confused?? That should be a pretty strong indicator of ‘blowing-away-ness.”

Love songs – YES!! Something like “Heaven” again would be great. We can only hope and wait because he obviously has it in him. If you’re a hater, you better PRAY he doesn’t sing a love song, because if he did it would be all over for the others.

One thing I can agree on – I have been surprised at the ‘churchiness.’ Surprised but not offended. Lots of people are religious. Lots of people are also religious bigots. Please consider who you might offend by the anti-Jesus anti-Mormon comments.

Anybody else bracing for the trainwreck that’s coming to us tonight? I mean seriously…I refused to believe they would make the contestants sing Mariah songs because that’s just crazy – I honestly thought she would just be the mentor and that’s that. I wish! :em41:
This is what’s going to happen tonight: (unless someone pulls out all the stops getting each contestant to choose a version that they handle) they are going to choke. Who wouldn’t? Whether you love or hate Mariah you have to admit that her songs are not for everyone. There are going to be alot of ‘pitchy’ comments, alot of ‘just not as good as the original’ comments, alot of ‘you were brave to change it, but it just didn’t work out’ comments. I cannot believe they are truly making them sing Mariah songs. I can’t imagine Jason singing a Mariah song, nor can I imagine Brooke singing one. Syesha will put in alot of effort and be told the ‘just not as good as the original’ comment. David A will float through just on the love of his fans. David C and Carly…well, I can’t decide what their fate will be. Is that all? Oh, I left out Brooke. Well, enough said. She’s in the same camp as Jason and Brooke this week. I wish them all luck, though!

16.
In the end, I hope and believe that this is all for fun and community and like any community we have our little disagreements and if they get too bad, the Mayor (Slim) or his minions (the mods) step in.

I know, I get too emotional!

I actually like everything about this season. There is not anyone left that I don’t like to listen to and I think Syesha and Kristy Lee are the only ones I haven’t downloaded anything from. I think they are all very talented and you never know from week to week what you are going to hear. This is one reality show where people actually step up and get better rather than worse.”Boring” and “Music” are like an oxy-moron to me – they don’t go together. All I see are people trying to do their very best in this intensely high-pressure situation.

I know, that is much too mushy for most of you on this blog! Thanks for letting me drop by anyway!

Jason castro has been accused of sounding the same every week…and because of that tonight should be his last night

David A is doing the same thing….shop around, your the voice, angels, imagine…have heard at church….just once i want him to sing a song about missing someone or how he loves that girl ..or anything other then a song i would hear at church…please!!!!!!!!!!..this week most of the Mariah songs are about love…heartbreak…playfulness…diff personal emotions…and he chose the only song with none…

by blowing away i mean doing something not expected and doing it really well…to the point where you are so surprised by the performance…it blow you away….like someone in shock standing and watching a tornado…so surprised its happening…and then boom…it picks you up and tosses u

Exactly, Eric! That’s why I’m posting that comment on a blog dedicated to fans. And I don’t hold anything against David A. He’s certainly not my favorite, but I aknowledge he’s got a great voice. I just think he’s getting boring –at least for me–.

The only one I really, REALLY want to see kicked off of the show –and anyone can tell by my previous comments– is Jason… and still, I don’t “hate” him or anything… I just don’t like him at all and don’t think he’s got what he needs to still be in the show.

KymK,

Thanks for the approval on pantsed/caffeine :em78:

As for boring, I have seen Jason, Brooke, David C and Syesha called boring on this blog. I have read that Carly and Amanda screech and that KLC “Makes my ears bleed”!!!!. I have seen Danny Noriega called some pretty hateful things. So why can’t others find David A boring?

There is no real top 40 anymore, we all have our little music niches we fit in, your meat is my poison and vice versa. In the end, I hope and believe that this is all for fun and community and like any community we have our little disagreements and if they get too bad, the Mayor (Slim) or his minions (the mods) step in.

Which of these songs are sung in “church”?

Waiting on the World to Change (NOT A BALLAD)
Crazy (NOT A BALLAD)
Heaven
Shop Around (NOT A BALLAD)
Imagine
Another Day in Paradise
We Can Work It Out (NOT A BALLAD)
The Long and Winding Road
You’re the Voice (NOT A BALLAD)
Smokey Mountain Memories
Angel

Sounds like songs from the heart, if you ask me.

24. rachel

A lot of the top 7 repeat the same style of songs every week. It’s not just David A., but everyone purposely says that about him because what else is there to criticize? David A. is STILL there because he is talented! This whole “he’s boring” statement is getting old.
You can say the same thing about David C. He always sings rock. He needs to sing a ballad. And this pretty much applies to ALL of them. They ALL sing what they sing best.
All David A. does is sing from his heart every single week. I don’t see “church music” in any songs he’s sung. (At least no church I have seen).
Remember, every ones taste in music is different. After the show tonight you vote for your favourite and David A’s fans will vote for him. Whoever ends up in the bottom will go home tomorrow night. It will not mean that they were the worst performers. It will just mean that they didn’t have a large enough fanbase to keep them on.

No actually I can’t (or rather I can imagine it, I just don’t believe him)and that is one (of several) of my problems with him.

Good luck to your boy. I think he will win. The Arch-Angels will vote for him even if he forgets the words, the tune or forgets to even come out on stage (or if you prefer the Producers will make sure he wins no matter what unless they like the drama of an upset Kristy/Brooke/David C win at the end). I am watching for giggles and grins or the pathos and drama of young folks trying to live their dream and to see how David C, Brooke, Jason. Carly and KLC do with this most silly of theme nights.

27. Eric

Thanks TLR for supporting David, or rather just correcting a bad post
But the important thing to remember here, whether David A wins or not, and I think the majority do want him to, is that the teens may not be able to stay up late enough for him and the elders may not dial in and vote.

So for those who love him, try to persuade your younger friends and nieces and nephews to call in. Or if you are young and / or elder, David not only needs vocal support but your phone calls.

Most important Rick, I don’t think it is David A who needs to realize and remember Melinda Doolittle. He is as humble as can be, has pressure from all sides… It is us, the voters who need to remember. Please do not hold anything against him, like I see so often on here. IMHO, the only cheating going on is the producers sending home whom they choose. I still don’t think the results are on the up and up. Well you are right in a way.. maybe once in a while this could happen but it\’s a bit much of a coincidence that David happened to get to sing a song he\’s sang years ago, Kristy, prior to doing God Bless, had previously sung it, according to youtube, and the acting like it is new to them… i do like David, but why is it that it seems every song he sings almost he has sung before…
He’s been performing since he was 7 or something. Lots of songs. As for cheating, is it cheating when Cookie takes a complete rework everytime? Is it cheating when Michael kept singing Queen? Is it cheating when jason has the brains to keep the background singers as far as possible? etc. No, it is called working the angles, strategy, playing to win, – Now it is true that I thought they went too far when they pantsed David A befoe Beatles week and fed Kristy 500mg of caffeine,, but hey…whatever works…

41.
Well – I assume that David A will do Leon’s version from X Factor and (Cue the Swoons) won’t add any new fans but certainly won’t lose any old ones.

Jason, h’mm. There a numbe rof quiet sections in the song but better a rad rework, me thinks.

Carly – Just sing girl. The song worked for Badfinger, Harry Nillson, Mariah carey, Heart, Kelly Clarkson and Leona, this is your week babeeeee.
it is her week, i believe this will be one of her moments.

Well, not cheating, but I feel it’s more of a “oh look what song I picked! God Bless The USA! I’m sure to get votes now no matter how well I sing it!”

45. Antonio

I think Jason picked a terrible song…..its crunch time and if you want to survive you need to pick huge songs. I read somewhere that if the contestants pick the same song…they draw straws …maybe he lost…and had to pick something else….the only way it will be any good is if he changes everything….He will be in danger of going home for sure…unless Carly does terrible with the classic Mariah song…as this really is her last chance to prove she belongs in the competition……I expect Brooke to have the performance of the night….maybe david cook…his voice on one of her ballads could equal magic

I actually like these song choices so far. I think Carly, David A. and Jason will do very well with these. Anxious to see what the rest of them will be singing.
Thanks, Slim, for posting these ! :em19:

That’s why you are free to vote for whomever you want.

51. AND I’m still hoping Syesha picks the song I had in mind. Probably not though, as I just randomly listened to one and said it’d be good. And David’s once again looks boring, which is a shame

David A…how predictable

53. I’m sorry but I just don’t like Jason much anymore, never really cared for him, and he seems to keep saving himself … wrong chioces people. And if Kristy picks another song that has something to do with America then she needs to go because that is complete cheat in my opinion.

54.
I still dont get it lol..
how do they get her song and not the rest… :em52:
because people have sources that know ahead of time what songs people are singing. We will never know all the spoilers till the rehearsal which doesn’t happen till 5PM on show night.

55. Antonio

I hope David A doesn’t produce another boring performance. Since Imagine he dropped in stock and has not done anything to improve. I expect more from a guy who has been performing all his life and who is performing songs on Idol that he has been performing for years. He should be blowing everyone away …and right now he is in a battle with David Cook who is the fav right now to win…and they are followed by Jason Castro who has only been playing guitar/singing for two years…..thats pretty sad….whats even worse is that Brooke and Carly both have cds out and are hanging on to dear life right now.
