Ruben Studdard has some major tax debt, $200,000 to be exact and now the Feds and Alabama have placed liens on his property.
Ruben who won American Idol in 2003 has unpaid taxes for 2003 and 2005 but according to his lawyer he has the money to pay them.
Developers are now wondering if the liens will affect Ruben’s six-figure investment in a Birmingham club expected to bear his name.
My question is how in gods name does Ruben have $200,00 in tax debt? Personally I can’t begin to think where he is making money. Yeah he won American Idol 5 years ago but has pretty much dropped off the face of the earth since then.

Just because they aren’t on the pop charts doesn’t mean they are missing in action. I love Ruben’s voice and have lots of his stuff downloaded and listen to it in the rotation with all 9 million other songs. :)
This sounds to me like he’d better pay attention to who’s managing his money!
Not being on the Top of the charts is just as bad as being MIA in this business
Only to the execs. Not to the fans.

That is an unfortunate and uncomfortable truth. The tax thing has happened to a lot of music stars who started out with bad management. Ruben needs a good tax lawyer right now to help him deal with the Federales!
The bulk of it is probably penalties that can be negotiated away. The Feds (and IRS in particular) are no one to scr*w with. It’s the only court in the land where you’re guilty until proven innocent. Ask Willie Nelson.
Wonder why he didn’t pay them, if he has the money. As we all know, the IRS doesn’t just go away. I’m sure quite a bit of that is interest, late charges and penalties. I’m guessing that’s why it’s such a high amount.
