Has it been a week already? Wow! Time flies when one is listening to Michael John’s new CD over and over and over. What does MJ have to do with SYTYCD? Well, nothing, but I take any opportunity I can to talk about him because he is..um..never mind. LET’S DANCE!
Tonight is the Top 16! I wonder how they will do? Miss Cat looks very pretty tonight in a salmon colored dress which looks roman? Grecian? Much better than the ruffled mess from last week! After the intro dances, we meet the jidges. Joining Nigel and Mary tonight is Toni Basil. Sing it with me! “Oh Mickey, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind! Hey Mickey!”

Before each dance we will find out what each dancer would do if they weren’t dancing.
Karla would be a journalist and Jonathan would be an acrobat for Cirque Du Soleil.

Dance: Hip Hop by Dave Scott to By My Side by Jadakiss feat. Ne Yo

Judges’ Thoughts: (N) The chemistry was not there. That wasn’t good enough. It was a bit like a sunday school picnic outing. You will be in the bottom tomorrow. (M) That was not synchronized. It really wasn’t in the right groove. (T) As unit you didn’t work really precisely together. If you’re doing street, you gotta have the funk, you gotta have the hard hit and you gotta be connected.
Angie’s Thoughts: Oh, some awesome choreography! However, it wasn’t danced that well. Poor Jonathan is not made for hip hop. Karla was a smidge better than Jonathan but neither stood out or WOWED the crowd. They were way off sync a LOT. They’ll be in the bottom.
Asuka would be making jewelry and Vitolio would be the lead singer in a band (except he can’t sing.)

Dance: Jazz by Mandy Moore to Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar

Judges’ Thoughts: (N) Fantastic! You did the work! (M) It was really good but not at the level of last week. I expected a little bit more. (T) Don’t let your technique get in the way of your emotions. Let your emotions take you to the next level.
Angie’s Thoughts: Did not love that Mandy Moore choreography. I don’t think they were quite on it, but I liked them. Vitolio, though not given a whole lot to do in this dance, did a little bit better then Asuka. I love Vitolio, so I want them to stay!
Melissa would be a pilates teacher with her own studio and Ade would be a sound engineer.

Judges’ Thoughts: (N) Absolutely fabulous. Ade was absolutely incredible. What a difference ‘Ade’ makes! (M) Woo! What you’re selling right now, I am buying! Ade you were with it and with her every step of the way! (T) It was really beautifully done. The sensuality was gorgeous.
Angie’s Thoughts: Wow! Sexy! I loved it! These two amaze me every week! I want them to stay!
Brandon would do lighting and design and Janette would be a loan processor.

Dance: Hip Hop by Dave Scott to What A World by Common

Judges’ Thoughts: (N) This is good stuff! You both worked it. Well done. (M) I think you guys really hit that! You guys have been hitting it every single week! WOOOOOO!! (T) Street is a really tough thing to do. To nail it like you guys did and to have the connection…(then she was interrupted.)
Angie’s Thoughts: OMG, LOVE!! I loved that choreography and the story of the hip hopper and the rocker. They rocked it! They MUST stay!!
Kayla would be a model and Kupono would be a costume designer.

Dance: Viennese Waltz by Jean Marc Genereux to Sweet Dreams For You by Jewel

Judges’ Thoughts: (N) It was very beautiful. You make a very beautiful couple. It was elegant. It isn’t going to make anybody stand up and cheer. (M) Well I know one thing for sure, that was no nightmare! It was elegant, it was flowing it was totally believable! The quality of movement was amazing. I have to put them on the hot tamale train! WOOOOOO!! (T) I really liked it. I did love it.
Angie’s Thoughts: I thought that was beautiful! I don’t have a clue if it was technically perfect but I don’t care. LOVE!! They looked gorgeous together!! They have to stay!!
Randi would be a teacher and Evan would own a car shop.

Dance: Contemporary by Mia Michaels to Koop Island Blues by Koop

Judges’ Thoughts: (N) Very simple choreography by Mia but it was beautifully danced. There wasn’t any great style by Mia but it was followed through from beginning to end. (M) You guys were terrific! WOOOOOO! Phenomenal! (T) You guys are phenomenal.
Angie’s Thoughts: I love, love, love these two!! LOVE! (Dang you, Mia, for bringing us this good stuff!! I still think you are a meany pants, though! Just keep choreographing and stop jidging. ) Both Randi and Evan were AWESOME! (Um, Mia? Ditch those glasses.)
Caitlin would be in broadcast journalism and Jason would be playing soccer.

Dance: Paso Doble by Jean Marc Genereux to O’Fortuna
Number: 1-888-TEMPO-07
Judges’ Thoughts: (N) I want to feel a passion between you two. Caitlin, your lines are perfect. Good job overall. (M) That was really a strong performance. Well done. (T) Even though it’s not their style, it didn’t get in the way of the performance. You still performed it. It was powerful and really good.
Angie’s Thoughts: Did not love that choreography. Jason pretty much had NOTHING to do in that dance. Yes, he lifted her and dipped her but otherwise, he didn’t get to dance. Caitlin was good. Over all, not my favorite, but I want them to stay!
Phillip would be an inventor and Jeanine would be an actress.

Dance: Broadway by Tyce Diorio to Moses from Singin’ in the Rain

Judges’ Thoughts: (N) Phillip, I’m going to have to ask you to grow even more. (M) Jeanine you were fabulous. Wooo! (T) I thought it was adorable. As a couple I think you did pretty well.
Angie’s Thoughts: Phillip’s pants are ripped! Literally. Finally a Broadway by Tyce that I like!! Loved it a lot! Jeanine really shined in that entire dance! Phillip held his own, I thought.
OK, so there you have it. What did you think? I thought it was a pretty great night overall. I think Toni was a poor choice for a judge. She spoke a lot but really said very little. I found myself thinking, ‘But what did you think of the dancers???’ Also, could she have said the word, ‘street’ any more??
I think Jonathan & Karla will be in the bottom. Joining them might be Vitolio & Asuka and maaaybe Caitlin & Jason. It’s hard to really say.

Pretty good show last night, though I had limited time to watch it, so thanks Angie for being there to fill in on all the stuff I fast-forwarded through. I got through the show in 40 minutes flat with my DVR, so that only left time to watch the dances, listen to Nigel, and listen to about the first half of what Mary said. It’s great to be able to come here and see their answers to the “what would I be…” question, and to succinctly be able to read what Mary & Toni said in their critiques.

honestly I like pretty much everyone. The talent this season is exceptional :)
Sorry, I missed the show tonight. I was watching LSU win the College World Series. I’ll have to watch SYTYCD tomorrow night, just before the results show.
I’ve said it before — I don’t watch this show. But man, that judge in the middle (Mary?) got on my nerves in about 1 minute flat. And what was with the macrame French beret Toni Whatshername was wearing? U.G.L.Y.
Holy crap! When glancing at your overview, “Mandy Moore” caught my eye. I didn’t know Mandy Moore did choreography, so I turned on the show just as the 2nd couple was about to start. They showed “Mandy Moore”, and…wow.. she isn’t the Mandy Moore I was thinking of!!! What a shock!!!
