I have a feeling the girls will do better with the Michael Jackson songs than the guys will.

i’ll say im sick of people giving credit to david cook for that his performance wasnt even good when you hear chris cornells version seriously!
I give credit to DC for his performance of CC’s version. It sounded quite the same, but it was very good. DC never claimed it as his own arrangement. Also, at the time, I believe CC gave high regards to DC for using his arrangement. People made controversy where there was none.

Wow, he looks like Steve Tyler right in middle of the 70′s on a really bad day

Chris may have been better but first of all David did an incredible job on the song and it was the week that we started to really notice David for the rockstar that he was so yes, D.C. deserves every bit of credit he got for that performance.

Unfortunately, that is true. While I don’t mind if he mentions his wife before after and during every song, (which would never happen) it would completely backfire.

10.
If they can twist the songs any way they want, do you think anyone will dare do the D.C. version of Billie Jean?
I would really hope not. First, it’s too soon. Second, DC blew that out of the water and really, it shouldn’t be attempted again.

Given the theatrical way Michael performed, I’d pick this song for Adam. But he simply must curl his hair, don the sequined glove, and wear tight pants for the full effect. Well, he’s already got the pants part down.

As bad as Michael Jackson’s life and image has become, I believe he has sold more units than any solo performer in the history of pop. You can’t get a demo much bigger than that.

37. I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised like I was with Dolly Parton week last year. THAT week gave me my most favorite knee-weakening performance by one Mr. Michael Johns. (It’s All Wrong But It’s All Right.)

**crossing fingers**

38. Lee

I dunno, it might not be so bad. It may show some talented sides of the singers that even they didn’t realize they had. I lived through the eighties and Michael Jackson changed the face of pop music and expanded the boundaries of cross over soul pop and rock with the likes of Eddie Van Halen and Paul Mccartney. His legacy in music and life are completely different but there is no denying his talent and creativity as a music artist writer and producer. He is a milestone hit maker to be sure.
This will be a challenge for the contestants and yes it will force many out of their comfort zone but that may not be such a bad thing. there are worse themes, most themes are boring anyway. A Michael theme offers exciting challenges and great possibilities for all the singers. They should all be able to find something they can do. Nobody can do Michael except Michael. I think what the judges will want to see is the singer making the song their own. It wont be easy.

39. DrillerAA

Of course, as a child of the sixties, I do like that theme, even if it is musical ancient history.

40. DrillerAA

I do think that the themes should be limited to time frames not artists. Elton John week was horrible, because none of the contestants could do Elton justice.
I would still prefer themes such as;
Top 40 from last five years.
Top 40 between five and ten years old.
Top 40 hit from year of HS graduation or last three years.
Top 40 hit from year of birth.
Even if the themes repeated, this would keep the music relatively current and allow the artists to pick songs that suit them.
Michael Jackson night could well spell the end for Michael Sarver. He may be the weakest link, but he should go down on his own merit, not because a stupid theme choice shot him down.

41. DrillerAA

Of course this could have been Alien vs. Predator night, and Michael would still have been right for both parts.

42. DrillerAA

There is a point at which almost every artist needs to just ride off into the sunset. Michael should have moon-walked his way into retirement several years ago.

43. DrillerAA

They could have renamed this “Child Predator” night, but that would be kind of a buzz kill.

44. Beverly

Read this same info earlier today on the AI website and thought they were kidding. This is gonna be like a pile of mangled automobiles alongside the highway. You know what you’ll see is awful, but you can’t help looking anyway. Sure, I’ll still tune in, but I’ll keep the remote in hand and my thumb on the mute button.

yea, the new theme is to set them up for failure.

46. Dr. Electro

Now I’m grumpy. I don’t like Michael Jackson and he’s one of the artists the judges bellyache about when the contestants sing his stuff. Is this a basic lesson in career sabotage?

Thank you Joyce, I wish I could do that too.

49. TBK24

Don’t they always criticize anyone that picks a michael jackson song? Now they want it to be a theme week….lol

50. ABB

My initial reaction was to laugh and laugh. Now I am feeling very frowny. This is just to hype Michael Jackson’s so-called comeback concert that’s been rumored lately. Somebody decent is going to be going home because they don’t do MJ very well.

51. I actually like a ton of Michael Jackson’s songs. I just don’t think this theme will work well for quite a few of the contestants

52. rachel

I use to like Michael Jackson many moons ago. But I can’t picture any of them singing HIS songs.
Maybe Adam, though, since he can make his voice high like Michaels ?

55. TERRIBLE theme. TERRIBLE. Yes, single artist themes make me grumpy. I am sure some of them will do just fine. However, this may very well mean one of the best ones on the show goes home too early.

Bad bad bad.

59. Grrrrrrr….. I hate theme weeks. Why pick contestants of varied genres then expect them to meld into one? You’re asking a country singer to sing Michael Jackson? Sure, they can kind of switch up the song to fit them – as many of them have in the past – but it isn’t always successful. It just comes off as irritating, and results in a good singer being eliminated too early. Pretty much what I said in my “rank the top 13″ post. It’s gonna happen.

60. DrillerAA

Does everyone have to dye their hair black, have their nose cut off, and wear a sequinned glove? Just asking.
