Tracking Hanna

Published on Sep 5, 2008 by in Hurricane Season

Update : Hanna had no major impacts on anyone.

I will be keeping Tropical Storm Hanna under close watch as we are supposed to get some of the rain later in the weekend. I will continue to post any updates on the storm in this post just like I did with Gustav and will be doing with Ike.

Hanna is forecast to hit the Carolina Coast on late Friday or early Saturday as nothing more than a Tropical Storm.

At around 3:15 a.m. EDT Saturday morning, Hanna made landfall near the South Carolina/North Carolina border producing tropical storm-force winds gusts (occasional hurricane force) with some locations experiencing sustained tropical storm-force winds.

Here is a short list of some notable gusts:
Kure Beach, NC: 77 mph
Wrightsville Beach, NC: 72 mph
Annapolis, MD: 54 mph
North Myrtle Beach, SC: 53 mph
Wilmington, NC: 54 mph
North Wildwood, NJ: 51 mph
Carolina Beach, NC: 50 mph

After making landfall, Tropical Storm Hanna moved up the East Coast and has now moved away from New England Coast and lost its tropical characteristics.

We are lucky here in upstate NY. We never have to worry about the full brunt of any hurricane. We do get lots of rain from them sometimes, like we did 2 years ago and our whole area flooded.

Hopefully it will die down a little bit more before it reaches Massachusetts !!!

  3. I did go through Hurricane Bertha in 1996. We were on vacation in Chincoteague, Virgina when it hit the Carolina coast as a category 2 hurricane.

The storm tracked right up the coast and we were hit with it. Right out on the coast on a little island with a Hurricane breathing down your neck isn’t fun. Not to mention we were in a mobile home that we owned about 100 yards from the Bay.

Now snow on the other hand, thats what we deal with mostly. But after a few years driving in it, nothing less than 18 inches would keep me off the road.
