“We Are the World — 25 for Haiti” made it’s video premiere during the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Vancouver on February 12, 2010.

Recorded on February 1st, 2010, in the same studio as the original 25 years earlier (Henson Recording Studios, formerly A&M Recording Studios) the new version, in which Jones and Richie serve as executive producers and producers, was created in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin; and project producers John Rubey and Adam Fell to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.

The song features appearances by a number of artists including Janet Jackson, Justin Bieber, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Pink, along with some newly added artists.

I was surprised that Stevie Wonder was not on this project. He is one of my all time favorites.

Sonya..it’s that ’special effect’ they add to voices in so many songs these days. sounds kind of electronic. There is a lot of it in “Boom Boom Pow” if you are familiar. When Lil Wayne is on We Are The World, that’s auto tune.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh! Why did they use auto tune? If a person is a good singer they don’t need it. Oh I just answered my own question ROFL!

So much better than I expected. Loved the Rap section (sorry) – not the same magic as the original but a good remake.

Well said, Lee. This one’s good, but the original was magical and so were the music and artists of that time–I remember it well; my favorite decade!

  13. Sonya says:

You guys are saying auto tune.. What auto tune?

  14. Sonya says:

    @ angie:
OK, watching the video before the opening ceremonies, made me kinda hate 3/4 of this song. I thought I was really going to like it. But, Lil Wayne and the auto tune, Kanye, Wyclef..they ruined it for me. *sigh* I want the original back ASAP!

Oh Angie! If you want to see the original go on youtube! After watching this, I went and saw the original. I feel better now. :) Some stuff on this new one was good and some wasn’t! Rap?!!?! No no no! Doesn’t belong there! I loved seeing Josh Groban there and Michael Jackson with his sister. :) Barbara Strisand awesome! :)

Really liked it overall. Hated the auto-tune. Wasn’t pleased with the rap. And I realize I’m out of touch here, but who was the one doing the excessive vibrato? The term caterwauling came to mind. Other than that, I really liked it. It made my eyes water. 2nd time watching, I had to pause a few times to see who was there because they went by so fast the 1st time around. Cool. I like it overall. LOVE how they wove MJ into it. I think he would’ve been proud.

i agree i didn’t like the 3 minute cut that NBC showed during opening ceremonies. This longer version is so much better.

Now why didn’t they show the whole video tonight. i know they said they were going to show it tomorrow but tonight is opening ceremonies, not tomorrow.

  18. angie says:

    Cool! Thanks Slim!

OK, to contradict myself here..I DO like the song..up until the auto tune crap. Gah..

  19. DJSlim says:

added the full version of the video not the version shown during the olympic opening ceremony.

    @ Easy Rider:

    I agree 100%.

To me it seems like the second “WOODSTOCK”. I realize you cannot compare the two events. But my point is the the fist magic will never be recaptured. But I am 100% for their cause.

  23. glamourpuss says:

no one forgot Katherine McPhee. ” a number of artists including” doesn’t imply that these are the only stars. I think it’s going to be a great remake. IMHO

  24. joeyinc says:

Nothing will ever top the original, at least not as long as a serious artist like Bob Dylan is being replaced with a bad joke like lil Wayne

  25. u forgot katharine mcphee! she is in it too!
